OLYMPIC swimming legend Janet Evans calls The Morning Swim Show for this very special edition to talk about her Olympic achievements and being a new mother.
Evans, the current world record holder in the 800 freestyle, talks with host Peter Busch about her gold-medal swims against the East Germans in the 1988 Olympics and how she felt going into the Games as a 17-year-old. She also remembers the "out-of-body experience" she had running the Olympic torch to Muhammad Ali at the 1996 Olympics.
Evans also talks about her experiences on the new reality show "Celebrity Circus," saying she stepped out of her comfort zone and how her participation will teach her daughter, Sydney, that "she could do anything she wants to do when she grows up."
Evans is involved in a campaign with Johnson's Baby and is featured in a cameo in an animated short. Evans said the goal of the short and the campaign is to inspire children to dream big and work for those dreams.
As a motivational speaker, Evans said she wants to tell kids "to enjoy the journey," and that, despite a few roadblocks, they can be anything they want to be.
The show concludes with a look at Ashley Evans and Alex Lendrum, two swimmers who will be competing in their first Olympic Trials. Both teenagers talks about their goals going into the meet, how they view the Trials and what they hope to get out of the experience.
