WEDNESDAY'S edition of The Morning Swim Show analyzes another race for Olympic medals and features a diving legend.
After detailing the news of the opening day of prelims in the Paris Open and a loss by the USA men's water polo team, host Peter Busch analyzes the countries vying for Olympic medals in the men's 800 free relay with Swimming World senior writer John Lohn. The race is really for silver and bronze, Lohn said, as the American team is likely to win with a sub-7:00 effort. Australia, Italy and Russia are countries likely to play a factor in the race as well. The American foursome that will swim the race will be partially determined in the 200 free finals at Trials, which Lohn is estimating will take a 1:47 to make the top six.
In For the Record, International Swimming Hall of Fame CEO Bruce Wigo talks to diving great Rick White. White grew up diving in Brooklyn, where he and his friends from many racial backgrounds connected to the sport instead of joining gangs in the neighborhood. White recalls the many king, queens, musicians, presidents and other dignitaries he has met through his lifetime. He singles out Gerald Ford as a favorite, saying Ford helped White travel to Taiwan as a diver, just one of the ways Ford impacted White's life.
