World University Games Fast Approaching in Rhine-Ruhr; Swimming Begins July 16
While the countdown to the World Championships in Singapore is underway, the World University Games will first take place in the Rhine-Ruhr Metropolitan region of Germany. The Games are scheduled for July 16-27, with seven days of swimming competition unfolding from July 17-23 at the Schwimm-und Sprunghalle in Europasportpark (SSE). The venue was built as part of Berlin’s bid for the 2000 Olympic Games, which were awarded to Sydney.
A 42-event program is scheduled for WUGS, which are open to students who are between the ages of 18 and 25 as of December 31, 2025. Athletes wishing to compete in the World University Games must be officially registered as pursuing a degree at a college or similar institute, or have received an academic degree or diploma in the year ahead of the competition.
The United States roster was recently revealed by USA Swimming and will include seven athletes each with ties to the University of Virginia and the University of Texas. Louisville coach Arthur Albiero is the head coach for the United States.
More information will be provided, including start lists, as we get closer to competition.
