Washington State Adds Tylor Mathieu As Assistant Coach
Washington State on Thursday hired Tylor Mathieu as an assistant coach on Russell Whitaker’s staff.
Mathieu graduated from the University of Florida in 2023 and spent last season as a student manager for the swimming and diving teams. A six-time All-American, she competed in three events at U.S. Olympics Trials in 2021 and helped Florida win an SEC Championship in her senior season of 2023.
“I am honored and thrilled to receive this opportunity to join the coaching staff at Washington State University!” Mathieu said in a university statement. “I would like to thank Russ Whitaker, Anne McCoy, and Brad Corbin for putting their trust in me. I am excited to continue the development of the distance program and collaborate with the rest of the staff to ensure our student-athletes are competing to the best of their abilities. I can’t wait to move to Pullman and to get to work! Go Cougs!”
Mathieu, a native of Hebron, Conn., graduated in the spring with a degree in psychology, a minor in education and a certificate in sport management. Her work with the Gators last year was with the program’s director of operations to organize team events and assist with social media coverage.
Whitaker is in his first year at Washington State, hired in May.
“I could not be more excited to bring Tylor Mathieu to Pullman to assist with our program,” Whitaker said. “Tylor’s experience as a student-athlete and as a manager at Florida will be invaluable to us as a program. More than that, Tylor is passionate about the sport, is extremely motivated, and has a work ethic that is hard to rival. I’ve heard nothing but good things about Tylor from coaches, peers, and administrators and can’t wait for her to get to Pullman!”
