TYR Swim Meet of Champions: Nathan Adrian, Jason Lezak Stage Heavyweight Battle; Chloe Sutton Wins Third Title

MISSION VIEJO, California, June 20. THE Olympians continued to be on fire at the TYR Swim Meet of Champions held in Mission Viejo. Open water Olympian Chloe Sutton snared her third gold medal of the meet, while Nathan Adrian and Jason Lezak staged a heavyweight battle in the men's 50 free. Additionally, Rebecca Soni and Kate Ziegler were on display.
Sutton grabbed her third gold medal of the meet, which has turned into a showcase in front of her home crowd. Sutton topped the women's 200 free with a time of 2:01.61, holding off a hard-charging Ziegler of The Fish. Ziegler closed out a second-place finish in 2:02.04. Lyndsay De Paul completed the top three in 2:02.67. (Watch the video below for highlights.)
California's Dominik Meichtry followed with a triumphant time of 1:49.29 in the men's 200 free. New Zealand's Andy McMillan touched second in 1:50.16, while Mission Viejo's Tom Shields placed third in 1:51.88.
World-record holder Soni of Trojan Swim raced to victory in the women's 200 breast. She easily claimed the title with a 2:26.60 to pick up nearly a three-second conquest over teammate Keri Hehn (2:29.12). North Coast's Jessie Schmitt rounded out the top three in 2:36.92.
Mission Viejo's John Criste captured the men's 200 breast title with a time of 2:15.51, while Terrapin Sean Mahoney touched second in 2:16.33. California's Nolan Koon earned third in 2:19.34.
The splash-and-dash events took place next with California's Madison Kennedy ripping off a 25.67 for the win. Santa Barbara's Anne Marie May finished second in 26.49 with West Coast's Cynthia Fascella garnering third in 26.65.
California's Adrian won another head-to-head battle between Olympians over Rose Bowl's Lezak. Adrian nearly claimed Lezak's meet record of 22.18 set last year with a 22.25. Lezak took second in 22.49. Cal's William Copeland completed the top three in 22.68.
In longer distance swimming, New Zealand's Natalie Wiegersma pocketed the women's 400 IM with a time of 4:46.49. De Paul took second in 4:47.73, while Schmitt picked up third in 4:48.25.
Mission Viejo's Charlie Rimkus captured the men's 400 IM crown with a time of 4:29.79. Cal's Martin Liivamagi hit the wall second in 4:30.43, while Swim Pasadena's Young Tae Seo rounded out the podium in 4:34.55.
North Coast's Katie Tomkinson, Monica Dornick, Kelsey Hall and Schmitt claimed the women's 800 free relay in 8:29.63, while Mission Viejo's Kane Radford, Rimkus, Deni Cullom and Tom Shields topped the men's 800 free relay in 7:47.81.
