TYR Swim Meet of Champions: Chloe Sutton, Chip Peterson Win On Distance Night

MISSION VIEJO, California, June 10. THE first night of long course meter swimming at the TYR Swim Meet of Champions featured the distance events. Mission Viejo's Chloe Sutton and FAST's Chip Peterson emerged victorious from their respective events.
Sutton, fresh off winning the U.S. open water 10K national title, dominated the women's 800 free with a time of 8:38.89. Toronto's Zsofi Balasz turned in the second-place time of 8:49.03, while Sierra Marlins' Haley Anderson touched out FAST's Emily Hanson, 8:51.13 to 8:51.18, for third.
Twin Cities' Mallory Weggemann, who is the reigning Swimming World Female Disabled Swimmer of the Year, also competed in the event. She swam a 200 freestyle with a time of 2:36.03 during a heat of the 800 frees as per LSC rules. That performance fell short of her Paralympic American Record of 2:31.51.
Peterson, who finished second in the open water 10K, captured the men's 1500 free in a time of 15:30.44. Scenic City's Sean Ryan placed second in 15:35.92, while Nashville's Jackson Wilcox pocketed third in 15:36.68.
