Tyler Coffing Hired by East Carolina as Assistant Coach
East Carolina on Thursday named Tyler Coffing as an assistant coach to the women’s swimming and diving team.
Coffing was most recently at the University of Miami of Ohio, where he was hired in 2019 and worked through the 2021-22 season. The Redhawks men’s team finished second at the Mid-American Conference Championships in 2019-20.
Coffing served as a volunteer assistant at Michigan State for one season and as an assistant for a year at the University of Mary Washington. At the latter, he helped UMW win men’s and women’s Capital Athletic Conference titles and pick up a pair of All-American honors at the NCAA Division III Championships. He also worked as a swim camp counselor at Princeton and the University of Texas.
“We are excited to add Tyler to our staff this year,” East Carolina head coach Matt Jabs said in a university release. “He has been part of multiple championship level programs, and I look forward to adding his knowledge and experience to the coaching mix as well as mentoring our athletes.”
Coffing received his bachelor’s degree in health behavior science, with a minor in coaching science, from the University of Delaware in 2017. He coached at several swim clubs during his undergraduate studies, and he has worked with a pair of USA Paralympic national team swimmers.
