To Beijing and Back, Episode 9: Visiting the Summer Palace
BEIJING, China, August 15. THE ninth episode of To Beijing and Back visits a summer palace in Beijing, the home to royalty dating back to the tenth century
Lions, dragons and birds greet visitors in the entrance of the summer palace, which spans 800 acres and contains a man-made lake. One of the courtyards is where the former emperor did business, and contains more sculptures of lions and a mythical creature with the physical attributes of five different animals, which stands guard at the entrance to the emperor’s palace grounds.
Other animals depicted in sculpture in the summer palace include peacocks and dragons. Take a walk with host Brent Rutemiller through the Great Long Corridor, the longest corridor in the world, which contains 8,000 pictures through 728 meters.
