Texas High School State Championships

AUSTIN, Texas, March 1. THE Texas High School State Championships took place February 18-19 at the Lee and Joe Jamail Swim Center on the campus of the University of Texas.
4A Girls
Spring Branch Smithson Valley's Anna Mayfield, Cedar Park Vista Ridge's Annika Jonsson, and Waco Midway's Emily Neubert all earned double wins. Mayfield took the 200 free (1:49.10) and 100 back (55.63), while Jonsson touched first in the 200 IM (2:02.00) and 500 free (4:54.14). Neubert, meanwhile earned wins in the 50 free (23.66) and 100 fly (55.19). Additionally, McKinney's Sammie Hashbarger won the 100 free (51.12), while Austin Johnson's Kara McCormack won one meter diving, scoring 515.35 points.
Frisco won the meet, sweeping the three relays and earning one individual win. Whitney Allen won the 100 breast in 1:04.42, and swam on two of the three winning relays. Ryann Lawley, Amber Jenkins, Melanie McDonough, and Allie Walsh won the 200 medley in 1:48.07, while Wlash, Jenkins, Lauren Jones, and Allen won the 200 free relay in 1:37.37. Melanie McDonough, Lauren Jones, April McDonough, and Allen earned first in the 400 free relay in 3:32.17.
Frisco won the meet by 100 points, with a dominating total of 276 points. Magnolia West scored 176 for second, while Cedar Park Vista Ridge earned third with 129.
4A Boys
San Antonio Alamo Heights' Luke Shaw and Humble Kingwood Park's Brooks Powell both earned two individual victories each and swam on at least one winning relay. Shaw took the 200 (1:38.61) and 500 free (4:29.88), and swam on both winning free relays. Adam Thomas, Ian Lemaistre, Austin Frey, and Shaw took the 200 free relay in 1:24.69, while Shaw, Thomas, Travis Lipscomb, and Lemaistre won the 400 in 3:07.90. Meanwhile, Powell swept the 50 free (20.64) and 100 fly (49.59), and led off Humble Kingwood's winning 200 medley relay. Garrett Stewart, Matt Munoz, and Hank Holcomb joined Powell to clock 1:34.88.
Richardson Pearce's Adam Bull took the 200 IM (1:49.59), while Frisco Wakeland's Devin Compan earned first in the 100 free (45.45). Austin Lake Travis' Reid Elliott earned first in the 100 back (49.60), and Frisco's Stewart won the 100 breast (57.36). San Antonio Alamo Heights' Finn Scribbick won the one meter diving with 501.90 points.
Humble Kingwood Park won a tight team race with 214 points, defeating Houston Stratford (204) and San Antonio Alamo Heights (200).
5A Girls
Fort Bend Dulles' Madeline Locus won both the 50 (22.85) and 100 free (49.24), becoming the only swimmer to earn more than one individual win. Meanwhile, Humble Kingwood took the team title with one individual and two relay wins. Jillian Vitarius won the 100 back (53.54), and she led off both victorious 200 medley and 400 free relays. Madeline Hazle, Leah Pfitzer, and Jamie Friderichs joined Vitarius on the 200 medley relay to post a winning time of 1:43.93, while Vitarius, Shannen Wehrman, Hazle, and Friderichs won the 400 free relay in 3:27.18.
Fort Worth Paschal's Julia Anderson took the 200 free (1:46.73), while Lubbock's Madisyn Cox finished first in the 200 IM (2:00.39. Midland's Natalie Hinds won the 100 fly in 52.96, Conroe's Kelsey Leneave won the 500 free (4:49.09), and Lewisville Hebron's Taylor Temple won the 100 breast (1:02.32). San Antonio Reagan's tem of Alexa Morris, Sarah Gibson, Colleen Konetzke, and Cori Gary won the 200 free relay in 1:34.94. The Woodlands' Kelly Markle won one meter diving with 519.15 points.
Humble Kingwood edged Southlake Carroll for the meet win by just one point, 197 to 196. Plano ended up third with 171 points.
5A Boys
Three swimmers walked away from the meet with double victories under their belt. Houston Cyprus Creek's Jonathan Edwards actually won four events, including two relay victories. Individually, Edwards won the 200 IM in 1:46.98 and 100 back in 48.01, and he swam on the winning 200 medley and 400 free relays. Jacob Wallace, Keith Murphy, Nate Beam, and Edwards won the medley in 1:33.29, while Tyler Ric, Ryan Layne, Murphy, and Edwards completed the meet with a 3:05.05 decision in the 400 free. Meanwhile, San Antonio Churchill's John Murray won the 50 (20.64) and 100 free (45.49), and Humble Kingwood's Jordan Jones took both the 500 free (4:24.54) and 100 breast (56.32).
Plano West's Zach Walters took first in the 200 free in 1:37.88, while Conroe The Woodlands' Tripp Cooper won the 100 fly in 48.27. Cooper led his team to the win in the 200 free relay, where Cannon Clifton, Knox Hitt, Gabriel Garcia, and Cooper posted a 1:23.50. Meanwhile Southlake Carroll's Bryce Klein won one meter diving with 562.75 points.
Southlake Carroll cruised to victory with 225 points, followed by Conroe The Woodlands (181) and Humble Kingwood (175).
