Team USA Closes Duel in Pool With Confusing American Record in Men’s 400 Free Relay
Team USA took down another ratified American record with a win in the men’s 400-meter free relay at the 2015 Duel in the Pool.
Team USA’s Josh Schneider, Matt Grevers, Michael Chadwick and Nathan Adrian posted a winning time of 3:05.42. That swim beat the ratified American record of 3:06.10 set by Adrian, Garrett Weber-Gale, Ricky Berens and Ryan Lochte back in 2010.
The time does not, however, break the fastest time by Americans – the world record 3:03.30 set by Adrian, Gervers, Weber-Gale and Michael Phelps in techsuits in 2009.
USA Swimming decided that American records set in techsuits after Oct. 1, 2009 – when USA Swimming implemented the techsuit ban domestically – would not be ratified. This is the case even for times swum legally in international events where ban was not in effect yet.
The European All Stars’ Marco Orsi, Vlad Morozov, Dion Dreesens and James Guy finished second in 3:08.32 tonight.
