SwimMAC Carolina Wins East Jr. National Championships
SwimMAC Carolina finished what they started. The Charlotte-based team capped off a team victory in the Speedo Winter Jr. National Championships (East) with a strong showing on Saturday.
Finals began with the distance event of the meet: the 1650-yard freestyle. Madison Homovic of Marlins of Raleigh won the women’s race in 16:09.63. In the men’s event, Taylor Delk of SwimAtlanta brought home the gold medal with a time of 15:16.42.
In the women’s 200-yard backstroke, Kaitlin Harty earned the victory with a time of 1:51.27. Dynamo Swim Club’s Michael Taylor took the gold in the men’s event with a time of 1:41.94.
In the 100-yard freestyle, 15-year-old Isabel Ivey finished first with a time of 48.44. Upper Dublin Aquatic Club’s Michael Jensen picked up a gold in the men’s event with a time of 43.64.
Nashville Aquatics Club’s Allie Raab won the women’s 200-yard breaststroke with a time of 2:09.69. The 15-year-old’s swim was a new meet record. Carmel Swim Club’s Charles Vaughan took the men’s event with a time of 1:58.25.
Grace Oglesby of Cardinal Aquatics brought home the victory in the women’s 200-yard butterfly event. Her time of 1:55.39 just beat Hannah Kukurugy of Crown Point Swim Club. Camden Murphy won the men’s race in 1:44.31.
The event ended with the men’s and women’s 400-yard freestyle relay.
In the women’s race, SwimMAC Carolina took the gold medal with a time of 3:16.62. The team of Alyssa Marsh, Erika Brown, Christina Lappin and Jessica Merritt posted a new meet record. Nashville Aquatic Club finished in second and Lakeside Swim Team finished third.
Upper Dublin Aquatic Club won the men’s event. The team of Alessandro Boratto, Wyatt Amdor, Jake Sannem and Jensen posted a time of 2:57.47. The Bolles School Sharks finished in second and Bernal’s Gator Swim Club took third.
SwimMAC Carolina racked up 770 team points to win the meet. The Bolles School Sharks were second with 479 points and Lakeside Swim Team was third.
