SwimMAC Carolina to Host Charlotte Ultra Swim in June
SwimMAC Carolina announced Tuesday it will be hosting the Charlotte Ultra June 13-16 at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center. The meet will be one of the premiere long course meets in the southeastern United States and is designed to benefit professional athletes, collegiate teams and club programs race the best in the nation. The Charlotte Ultra Swim was a part of USA Swimming’s Grand Prix series for a long time, last hosting a TYR Pro Swim Series meet in 2016 before the Olympic Trials.
Charlotte has proven to be a favorite among coaches and swimmers in year’s past and the meet should attract some big names from around the state of North Carolina as well as the rest of the nation. The meet schedule will be as follows:
- Thursday PM: 800/1500M & Thursday events will include first round of knockout 50s.
- Friday: 200 Free, 100 Breast, 100 Fly, 400IM, & semi 50’s
- Saturday: 200 Fly, 50 Free, 200 Breast, 100 Back, 400 Free, & final 50’s
- Sunday: 100 Free, 200 Back, 200 IM, & 800/1500 Free
The June 13 weekend will also be the same weekend as the last stop of the 2019 TYR Pro Swim Series in Clovis, California. A lot of east coast swimmers might not make the trip out to California so they could elect to swim in a closer meet in Charlotte.
The Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center has seen some historic swims including a world record from Tom Malchow in the 200 butterfly in 2000, three months before he won the gold medal at the Sydney Olympic Games.
