Stanford Men, UCLA Women Dominate At A3 Performance Invite
Night three of the A3 Performance Invitational hosted by the University of California in San Diego started with a bang.
UCLA junior Madison White blazed to a victory in the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:54.70. White’s won the event by over two seconds. Stanford’s Patrick Conaton brought home the men’s title with a time of 1:43.26. He also won the race by over two seconds.
Sandra Soe of UCLA won the 1650-yard freestyle. Soe finished her race in 16:25.06 and won by 14 seconds.
The UCLA women continued their roll into the 100-yard freestyle. Caroline McTaggart won the event for the Bruins in 49.37. Stanford’s Sam Perry won the men’s event in 43.21.
Liam Egan brought home the 1650-yard freestyle for Stanford. The sophomore finished in 15:05.31, seven seconds ahead of teammate Danny Thomson.
The Stanford men and UCLA women continued their dominance in the 200-yard breaststroke. Emma Schanz won the women’s title for the Bruins with a time of 2:12.55. On the men’s side, Matt Anderson earned another victory for the Cardinals. The freshman finished his race in 1:58.42.
Noell Tarazona, swimming unattached, won the women’s 200-yard butterfly. She finished with a time of 1:56.64, winning the race by over a half second. Stanford’s Gray Umbach won the men’s event with a time of 1:44.32.
The UCLA women finished their dominant night with a win in the 400-yard freestyle relay. The team of White, Katie Grover, Linnea Mack and McTaggart won the race in 3:20.12. Stanford completed their sweep of the evening’s events on the men’s side in the men’s 400-yard freestyle relay. The Cardinal team of Spencer DeShon, Jeff Garnier, Sean Duggan and Perry won the race by almost five seconds with a time of 2:55.10.
Stanford won the meet on the men’s side. The University of California Santa Barbara finished in second. UCLA won the women’s team competition, finishing ahead of UC Santa Barbara.
