Speedo Performance of the Week, Presented By Pace Club: Ryan Lochte’s 100 Fly Showdown With Michael Phelps
PHOENIX, Arizona, April 29. RYAN Lochte’s showdown with Michael Phelps in the men’s 100-meter fly at the Arena Grand Prix in Mesa certainly drew our attention, enough to make him this week’s winner of the Speedo Performance of the Week, Presented By Pace Club.

Although Lochte wound up scratching the final night of swimming due to his knee injury flaring up after a full weekend of competition, that didn’t stop him from clipping Phelps in the 100-meter fly final on night one, 51.93 to 52.13. That swim pushed Lochte up to second in the SwimVortex world rankings, behind only Takuro Fujii. That’s a pretty strong time, especially with Phelps tying for fifth in the world rankings as well just behind him as the two rekindled a decade-long rivalry.
It will be interesting to see what happens when Lochte competes in his new home pool at the Charlotte UltraSwim stop of the Arena Grand Prix just a few weeks from now, assuming he is able to get past any further knee issues.
