Speedo Performance of the Week, Presented by Pace Club: Connor Green Blazes Through 200 Backstroke
PHOENIX, Arizona, January 15. IT was a pleasure to be at the CeraVe Invitational this past weekend in Piscataway, New Jersey, to see some of the nation’s top junior swimmers and young up-and-comers racing in the long course meet. If you missed our live stream of the meet, you missed several noteworthy performances in the senior division. Without a doubt, the top swim of the meet was Connor Green’s 200 backstroke on Sunday. Green had a busy meet, swimming multiple times in the course of three days. But he showed no signs of fatigue in the 200 back, taking the race out in 59 seconds at 100 meters and finishing with a 2:00.65. The swim broke the four-year-old meet record of 2:00.79 and got Green within two seconds of his lifetime best. Very few swimmers at the elite level are able to do that after a long weekend of swimming, but it was clear that Green had that record in his sights.
This was likely Green’s last time swimming in the CeraVe Invitational. He’ll be a freshman at the University of California-Berkeley this time next year, and he can be happy with the knowledge that his meet record is probably going to last for a long time. Congratulations, Connor, you’ve won the Speedo Performance of the Week.
