Shcherbakov of Fresno Pacific Bests New PCSC 100 Breast Record

The Pacific Collegiate Swim Conference Championships day three finals were tonight. The women’s 100 butterfly, men’s 200 free and 100 breast PCSC records were broken.
Women’s Meet
In the women’s 400 IM, Fresno Pacific’s Bavindeep Basra won the event going a 4:23.97. Azusa’s Abigail Wiet came in at 4:25.37 for the silver and right behind her was Maddy Huttner of UC San Diego who came in third place with a 4:25.60.
Daria Belova of Fresno Pacific won the women’s 100 butterfly with a 53.93. With this time she broke the 2007 PSCS record of 54.32. Loyola Marymount’s Hannah Calton got the silver with a 54.50 and Naomi Thomas of UC San Diego took the bronze with a 55.33.
In the 200 freestyle UC San Diego’s Dari Watkins won the event with a 1:50.04. Her teammate Haley Murphy placed second with a 1:51.24 and Loyola Marymount’s Kristen Clarno swam to third place with a 1:52.00.
Pepperdine’s Jessica Mosbaugh won the women’s 100 breast with a 1:02.26. UC San Diego’s Jamie Bryan placed second with a 1:03.72 and East Bay’s Claire Beaty went a 1:04.69 for third.
Olga Melnikova went a 56.90 and took first place in the women’s 100 back tonight. UC San Diego’s Julia Toronczak went a 57.50 for second place, out touching East Bay’s Mariam Lowe by a hundredth of a second, who took the bronze with a 57.51.
UC San Diego won the women’s 400 medley relay. The team of Natalie Tang (56.32), Angie Phetbenjakul (1:02.13), Jayna Wittenbrink (55.06) and Colleen Daley (49.87) won with a 3:43.38. Fresno Pacific came in second (3:47.49) with Melnikova (56.67), Belova (1:01.60), Basra (57.31) and Samantha Woo (51.91). Cal State East Bay came in third with a 3:49.91 and the team of Mariam Lowe (56.78), Beaty (1:04.23), Vivy Hua (56.96) and Cassidy Humphrey (51.94).
Men’s Meet
UC San Diego men swept the 400 IM podium tonight. Kevin Fink won the event in a 3:57.19. His teammates Kyle Nadler came in second with a 3:58.08 and Zach Yong went a 3:58.16 for the bronze.
After breaking the PSCS record in the men’s 100 butterfly this morning in a 46.27, UC San Diego’s Kevin Wyler won the event with a 47.88 tonight. His teammates Garrett Tse (48.55) and Ivan Garin (48.61) came in second and third place.
Michael Cohn of UC San Diego went a 1:37.43 in the men’s 200 free. With this time he won the event and broke the 2012 PCSC record of 1:37.48. Fresno Pacific’s Austin Hussain got the silver with a 1:38.53 and his teammate Wesley Coles took the bronze with a 1:39.23.
After breaking the PCSC this morning the the 100 breast, Fresno Pacific’s Maksim Shcherbakov won the event in a 52.78 resetting his new record. Zach Yong of UC San Diego came in second with a 55.90 and his teammate AJ Zavala finished third (57.22).
UC San Diego took all three spots on the podium in the men’s 100 back. CJ Pais went a 49.73 and own the event. His teammates Alexander Moshensky (51.17) and Wesley Whittlesey (53.28) took second and third place.
Fresno Pacific won the men’s 400 medley relay. Their team of Luka Barisic (49.75), Shcherbakov (52.07), Wesley Coles (48.25) and Hussain (44.90) won with a 3:14.97. UC San Diego came in second going a 3:18.72 with the team of Jullian Jacobs (49.44), Tse (56.36), Wylder (47.55) and Arthur Heale (45.37). UC Santa Cruz came in third (3:24.20) with Dane Doran (53.51), Casey Colella (56.82), Garin (48.74) and Cameron Braun (45.13).
