Shayna Jack Among Winners on Final 2 Days of 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games
Australia’s Shayna Jack took home the women’s 50-meter free title on the final day of competition at the 2015 Commonwealth Youth Games.
Jack hit the wall in 25.71. South Africa’s Erin Paige Gallagher tied New Zealand’s Gabrielle Fa’Amausili for second with 25.82s.
Scotland’s Erin Robertson topped the women’s 50-meter breast in a time of 32.55 with South Africa’s Kaylene Corbett hitting the wall second in 32.95. England’s Layla Black wound up third in 33.17.
Malaysia’s Fu Kang Wong won the men’s 50-meter breaststroke in 29.15 with South Africa’s James Greig Isemonger finishing second just behind with a 29.20 according to Swimming South Africa. Scotland’s Kieran Preston earned third in 29.83.
Malaysia’s Welson Wee Sheng Sim stopped the freight train that was Clyde Lewis of Australia with a 4:01.08 to 4:01.42 win in the men’s 400-meter free. Lewis had pocketed a pair of golds in the first two days of competition. England’s Tom Derbyshire finished third overall in 4:03.36.
Lewis got back into the win column on the final day of competition with a 2:02.40 in the men’s 200-meter IM. England’s Joe Litchfield placed second in 2:05.01 with South Africa’s Neil Fair earning third in 2:05.22.
Australia’s Ariarne Titmus clipped England’s Georgina Boyle, 4:14.56 to 4:14.90, in the women’s 400-meter free. England’s Georgia Darwent snared third overall in 4:15.04.
Australia went 1-2 in the women’s 100-meter fly. Gemma Cooney clocked a 59.32, while Lucia Lassman placed second in 1:00.21. Scotland’s Tain Bruce claimed third in 1:00.83.
New Zealand’s Wilrich Coetzee hit the wall in 54.48 to win the men’s 100-meter fly. Australia’s Brayden McCarthy finished second in 54.55 with South Africa’s Brendan Levy placing third in 54.90.
Bobbi Gichard of New Zealand crushed the women’s 200-meter backstroke finale in 2:10.87. South Africa’s Nathania Van Niekerk took second in 2:13.54 with Australia’s Elyse Woods earning third in 2:15.13.
Australia’s Tristan Ludlow topped the men’s 200-meter back in 2:01.46. Northern Ireland’s Conor Ferguson touched second in 2:03.90 with South Africa’s Neil Fair winding up third in 2:03.93.
England’s Georgia Darwent won the women’s 800-meter free in 8:45.85, while Scotland’s Meg Finnon took second in 8:47.78. Australia’s Ariarne Titmus placed third in 8:45.85.
Australia claimed another 1-2 in the women’s 200-meter IM. Lucy McJannett won in 2:14.57 with Calypso Sheridan taking second in 2:16.80. England’s Tazmin Pugh wound up third in 2:19.30.
South Africa’s Zane Waddell won the men’s 50-meter free in 22.85. Australia’s Jack Cartwright tied Australia’s Vincent Dai for silver with 22.93s.
England’s Layla Black claimed the women’s 200-meter breast in 2:30.99. Australia’s Calypso Sheridan finished second in 2:31.81 with South Africa’s Kaylene Corbett taking third in 2:33.91.
England’s Edward Baxter touched in 2:15.80 to dominate the men’s 200-meter breast. Malaysia’s Fu Kang Wong took second in 2:18.18 with South Africa’s James Greig Isemonger earning third in 2:19.99.
