St. Francis senior Scotty Buff lit the pool on fire in the 100 fly, becoming the first scholastic athlete to break the 45-second barrier, registering a performance of 44.97. Buff’s effort sliced exactly a half-second off the previous record, which was set by Aidan Hayes at 45.47 during the 2021 season.

Buff, a Florida commit, also broke the independent-school record, which was set at 45.52 by Joseph Schooling in 2013.

Olentangy Liberty’s Hudson Williams impressed with a swift 19.55 to win the 50 free, eclipsing the state record of 19.62 set by Mason’s Adam Chaney in 2020. He won the event by nearly a full second, right before he also lowered his own state mark in the 100 free in 42,98.

At the girls’ Division I meet, Dublin Coffman’s Emily Brown cruised to a three-second win and a new state record in the 200 free in 1:45.88. That time crushed Cincinnati Ursuline’s Alisabeth Marsteller mark of 1:46.78 from 2014.

Jason Zhao of Indian Hill clipped the state record in the 500 free at the boys’ Division II meet. His time of 4:24.01 removed Oakwood’s Brock Turner’s 4:24.31 from the record book.

St. Xavier won the boys Division I title with 287, well above of runner-up Upper Arlington (182), for its 43rd state title. Dublin Jerome was victorious at the girls Division I meet with a score of 225, just ahead runner-up Upper Arlington (215). He won the event by a whopping five seconds.

At the boys Division II meet, Hunting Valley University School swam away with the title after accumulating 290.5 points, ahead of Indian Hill’s 172. It marked Hunting Valley’s eighth state title. It was a tight battle at the girls Division II championship, but Hathaway Brown pulled away to win it with 308 points ahead of Hawken (265). It was Hathaway Brown’s first-ever state title.
