Regis Jesuit Wins 23rd Overall Colorado 5A State Championship Title

The Colorado 5A State Swimming and Diving Championships took place this past weekend, with Regis Jesuit swimming away with its first state title since 2018. It also marked its 23rd championship crown all-time in school history.
The meet was held at the Veterans Memorial Aquatics Center in Thornton, Colorado, on May 13-14.

Regis Jesuit used its impressive depth to secure the state title, as the Raiders’ only event victory came in the final 4×100 free relay. The relay squad was composed of Mack Dugan (46.76), Ronan Krauss (46.06), Hawkins Wendt (46.45) and Gio Aguirre (44.84), combining in 3:04.11.
Other notable finishes throughout the meet for Regis Jesuit included Aguirre who placed second in the 100 free with a time of 46.10 and Krauss who stopped the clock in 4:38.74 in the 500 free for silver.
For leading his team to the state title, head coach Nick Frasersmith was tabbed the Colorado 5A Coach of the Year.
Chase Mueller, a senior at Columbine, was one of three double-event winners during the meet. The NC State commit took the top spot in both the 200 IM (1:48.88) and 100 back (47.38). Also of note, his soon-to-be Wolfpack teammate, Quintin McCarty, set a pair of state records at the 4A meet.
Fort Collins’ Jack Ballard also brought home a pair of gold medals. Ballard, who has committed to Minnesota, won the 200 free (1:39.90) and 500 free (4:37.91). The senior was named the Colorado 5A Swimmer of the Year for his performances.
Rounding out the two-time champs was Chatfield’s Tristen Davin. The future Virginia Cavalier placed first in the 50 free (20.57) by just .03 ahead of Legacy’s Kyle Raskay (20.60). He also won the 100 free (44.94) ahead of Aguirre (46.10).
On the boards, Cherry Creek senior Conrad Eck won the 1-meter with a final score of 596.00. Cherry Creek also began the meet by winning the 4×50 medley relay.
