Ranomi Kromowidjojo Leaps To 3rd in World in 100 Free With 53.21

Ranomi Kromowidjojo uncorked a third-ranked 53.21 to lead the women’s 100-meter free semis at the 2016 Eindhoven Swim Cup.

FINALS

Men’s 50 breast

Hendrik Feldwehr raced his way to a 28.10 to win the sprint breaststroke event.  Timon Evenhuis claimed second overall in a time of 28.20 with George Bovell earning third overall in 28.29.

Women’s 800 free

Serena Stel turned in a top time of 9:07.09 to win the 800 free.  Laura Setz picked up second-place honors in a time of 9:10.04 with Jill Benne claiming third in 9:13.59.

Men’s 100 fly

Joeri Verlinden turned up the heat in the finale with a time of 52.06.  That’s off his fifth-ranked season best of 51.79 from earlier in the meet.

Laurent Barns checked in with a second-place time of 53.90 with Geoffrey Cheah earning third in 53.95.  Nyls Korstanje set the Dutch age group record for 17 year olds with a fourth-place 54.55.

Women’s 200 fly

Julia Mrozinski captured the 200 fly title with a time of 2:11.59.  Lisa Hopink earned second in 2:13.15 with Anja Crevar snaring third in 2:14.12.

SEMIFINALS

Men’s 100 back

Guy Barnea posted the top time of the 100 back semis with a time of 55.05.  Christian Diener checked in with a second-seeded time of 55.43, while Carl-Louis Schwartz also cleared 56 with a third-seeded time of 55.64.

Felix Wolf qualified fourth in 57.07 with Jelle Betten breaking the Dutch junior national record with a 57.78.

Women’s 100 breast

Rikke Moller Pedersen cruised to the top seed in a time of 1:07.26.  That put Pedersen up to 15th in the world rankings.

Yvette Man-Yi Kong grabbed the second seed in a time of 1:08.64 with Anouk Elzerman earning third overall in 1:09.63.

Men’s 200 free

Maarten Brzoskowski earned the top spot into finals with a time of 1:47.36.  Sebastiaan Verschuren qualified second with a time of 1:47.55 to set up a strong head-to-head in finals.  Glenn Surgeloose finished third in 1:48.96 with Velimir Stjepanovic grabbing fourth in 1:48.97.

Women’s 100 free

Ranomi Kromowidjojo unleashed a 53.21 in semis to move to third in the world rankings, behind only Sarah Sjostrom (52.78) and Cate Campbell (52.85). She jumped ahead of Bronte Campbell (53.30) in the process.

Femke Heemskerk qualified second in a time of 53.87 to move to ninth in the world, while Jeanette Ottesen put up a third-seeded 53.95 to enter the top 15.

Marrit Steenbergen set a Dutch age group record for 16 year olds with a 54.70.
