Patrick B. Kraemer has had his eye on the water for Swimming World this week at the European Short-Course Championships in Glasgow, his images gracing reports on the action from Liz Byrnes.

The gallery of some of Patrick’s shots speaks to his skill, the thrill of swimming and the magical interface of human and water.

Four days of racing in Glasgow, with one day to go today, have flooded the World Rankings, men making a far greater impact than the women:

  • Men: just shy of a half of all top 10s across 15 events (total, 150 swims) are from four days of racing in Glasgow, including World No 1 in 8 events.
  • Women: a quarter of all top 10s across 15 events (total, 150 swims) are from four days of racing in Glasgow, including World No 1 in 8 events.

The above does not reflect relatives strengths and weaknesses of European men and women in the global picture but does speak to the fact that women tend to be far closer to peak form more often in multi-swim action such as that on International Swimming League tour. The numbers also reflect the absence of some of the biggest hitters, such as Sarah Sjostrom and Ranomi Kromowidjojo.

The top points swimmers and swims in Glasgow with a day to go:

  • Women: Kira Toussaint (NED) – 25.75 and 55.17, 50m and 100m backstroke
  • Men: Danas Rapsys (LTU) – 3:33.20, 400m freestyle
