The fifth and final day of the 2018 Phillips 66 U.S. National Championships saw another three U.S. Open records tumble down. Kathleen Baker, Zane Grothe, and Simone Manuel each posted records in the 200 IM, 800 free, and 50 free respectively en route to the national title.
With no Katie Ledecky nor Leah Smith in the women’s 1500 free, the door was left wide open to a talented field of distance women. Ashley Twichell scorched the field with a best time and a shift to third place in the world rankings.
Chase Kalisz continued to reign supreme over the IM events with a top showing in the 200 distance, while Michael Andrew continued to impress by besting a talented field of sprinters in the men’s 50 free.
At the conclusion of the evening, Team USA announced a roster of 58 athletes.
