Penny Oleksiak Among Event Winners at Night 2 of 2018 Atlanta Classic
Night two of the 2018 Atlanta Classic saw many familiar names, and several teenagers, collecting wins at the McAuley Aquatic Center in Atlanta, Georgia.
Canadian Olympian Penny Oleksiak, Zach Brown, and Phoebe Bacon were among the teenagers who took home gold medals in tonight’s events, while Michael Andrew and Micah Sumrall posted new meet records.

Women’s 200 Fly
Canada’s Penny Oleksiak (17) led a trio of teenagers to the top of the podium in finals of the women’s 200 fly. Oleksiak delivered a top finish of 2:11.22, finishing more than three seconds ahead of Metroplex’s Lindsay Looney (16) and her time of 2:14.49.
Abby Harter (16) of Nation’s Capital took home third with a time of 2:15.14, just ahead of Caitln Casazza, representing Athens Bulldogs, and her time of 2:15.59.
York YMCA’s Courtney Harnish turned in a 2:17.38 for fifth, followed by Marlins of Raleigh’s Maddie Homovich’s 2:18.49.
Nation’s Capital’s Mackenzie McConagha (2:19.09), SwimAtlanta’s Haley Arner (2:19.62), Yellow Jacket’s Emily Ilgenfritz (2:19.87), and Oakville’s Tessa Cieplucha (2:22.92) rounded out the top ten.

Men’s 200 Fly
18-year-old Zach Brown, representing Marlins of Raleigh, flew ahead of the competition in finals of the men’s 200 fly. Brown split a strong 30.32 on the final 50 to chase down Pleasanton’s Maxime Rooney and claim first with a 1:59.85. Rooney, despite leading for much of the race, turned in a second place finish of 2:01.39.
Taylor Abbott of Tennessee Aquatics took home a 2:02.12, while teammate Marc Hinawi and SwimAtlanta’s Blake Atmore tied for fourth with matching times of 2:03.23.
SwimFlorida’s Santi Corredor posted a sixth place finish of 2:04.72, followed by SwimAtlanta’s Andrew Huenniger’s 2:05.69.
Gamecock’s William Riggs finished eighth with a 2:07.89, just ahead of Marlins of Raleigh teammates Josh Legge (2:08.82) and Tyler Silver (2:09.75).

Bailey Grinter of Tennessee Aquatics bested Canada’s Penny Oleksiak in finals of the women’s splash and dash. Grinter got her hand to the wall in a time of 25.74 over Oleksiak’s 25.79.
Fellow Tennessee teammates Erika Brown and Stanzi Moseley collected third and fourth with times of 26.00 and 26.15.
Veteran sprinter Amanda Weir, representing SwimAtlanta, took home fifth with a 26.44, while Missouri’s Samantha Porter was sixth with a 26.85.
Gamecock’s Rachel Bernhardt (26.97), Athens Bulldogs’ Donna Blaum (27.02), Auburn’s Robyn Clevenger (27.20), and Carrie Johnson (27.33) rounded out the top ten.

Michael Andrew of Race Pace Club took home gold and another meet record in finals of the men’s splash and dash. Andrew stopped the clock at a time of 21.73 to lower Nathan Adrian’s 2016 meet record of 21.93.
Tiger Elite teammates Peter Holoda (22.70) and Shane Ryan (23.01) were second and third, while Metro Atlanta’s Will Davis was fourth with a 23.03.
Harvard’s Dean Farris grabbed fifth overall with a 23.10, followed closely by Caeleb Dressel in a time of 23.13.
Tennessee’s Alec Connolly (23.36), Alabama’s Andrew Shea (23.80), Auburn’s Santiago Grassi (23.96), and Guatemala’s Luis Martinez (24.01) completed the top ten.

15-year-old Phoebe Bacon dashed to a top time of 1:00.86 in finals of the women’s 100 back, while Sydney Sell finished second with a time of 1:02.89.
Sherridon Dressel picked up third overall with a time of 1:03.21, just ahead of Auburn’s Erin Falconer’s 1:03.29.
Tennessee Aquatics’ Bailey Grinter wsa fifth with a 1:03.39, followed by SwimAtlanta’s Caroline Alkins and her time of 1:03.42.
Tennessee’s Christina Paspalas (1:03.97), Yellow Jacket’s Allie Paschal (1:04.18), Cavalier’s Paige Madden (1:04.25), and Athens Bulldogs’ Maddie Wallis (1:04.70) completed the top eight.

Tiger Elite’s Shane Ryan led the men’s 100 back A final from start-to-finish, posting a final time of 54.66 for first.
Youssef Said, represented by Athens Bulldogs, took home second overall with a 55.55, while third place went to Tennessee Aquatics’ Joey Reilman (56.17).
SwimAtlanta’s Bradley Dunham was fourth with a 56.47, just ahead of Tennessee’s Matthew Garcia and his time of 56.58.
Minnesota’s Tom Donker (57.83), Quest Swimming’s Clark Beach (57.95), and Cal’s Ethan Young (59.15) were sixth through eighth.

Women’s 200 Breast
Micah Sumrall of Chattahoochee Gold dominated the women’s 200 breast A final, finishing more than six seconds ahead of the competition with a time of 2:26.16. Her time downs Melanie Margalis’ meet record of 2:26.66 from 2016.
Metroplex’s Vanessa Pearl grabbed second overall with a time of 2:32.78, while Rachel Bernhardt of Gamecock Aquatics turned in a 2:34.48 for third.
Danielle DellaTorre of Athens Bulldogs posted a fourth-place finish of 2:37.07, followed by a close 2:37.17 from Tennessee’s Alexis Yager.
Marlins of Raleigh’s Ashley McCauley (2:37.87), Dolphins’ Meghan Lynch (2:38.36), Marlins of Raleigh’s Julia Poole (2:38.82), Athens’ Jordyn Gulle (2:40.92), and Oakville’s Tessa Cieplucha (2:42.59) rounded out the A final.

Men’s 200 Breast
Miguel DeLara of Tiger Elite collected a sizable win on the men’s side of the 200 breast, posting a time of 2:14.60 to finish close to three seconds ahead of the competition.
Avon’s Chandler Bray and Pointe-Claire’s James Guest rounded out the podium with times of 2:17.42 and 2:17.51, while Minnesota’s Conner McHugh took fourth with a 2:18.03.
Marco Guarente of Azura delivered a 2:18.31 for fifth, while Tennessee’s Matthew Dunphy posted a 2:18.52 for sixth.
Minnesota’s Eitan Yudashkin (2:20.12), Hillsborough’s Rosa Palazzo (2:22.07), Club Seminole’s Juan Sequera (2:23.46), and Marlins of Raleigh’s Connor Dalbo (2:24.28) posted seventh through tenth place.

Women’s 400 Free
Courtney Harnish, representing York YMCA, chased down Tennessee’s Amanda Nunan towards the end of the women’s 400 free, collecting the win with a time of 4:13.97. Nunan led the race throughout the first 300 meters, but slipped to second with a time of 4:14.21.
Olivia Anderson of Etobicoke Swimming finished third overall with a 4:17.86, ahead of Athens Bulldogs’ Sandra Scott and her time of 4:19.12.
Marlins of Raleigh’s Maddie Homovich grabbed fifth with a time of 4:20.33, followed closely by Athens Bulldogs’ Jordan Stout’s 4:20.57.
Cavalier’s Paige Madden (4:20.80), SwimAtlanta’s Abigail McCulloh (4:20.83), Gamecock’s Emma Barksdale (4:20.95), Gwinnett Aquatics’ Anna Jahns (4:21.06) also competed in the A final.

Gator Swim Club’s Mitch D’Arrigo turned in a top time of 3:54.98 in the men’s 400 free. He was followed closely to the wall by SwimAtlanta’s Jake Magahey (3:55.46), SwimFlorida’s Santi Corredor (3:55.73), Tennessee’s Taylor Abbott (3:55.76), and Central Chesapeake’s Ben Lawless (3:55.89).
Kevin Miller of Athens Bulldogs took home sixth with a time of 3:57.15, while seventh went to Tennessee’s Walker Higgins‘ 3:58.98.
Scottsdale’s Aaron Apel (4:05.35), SwimAtlanta’s Bradley Dunham (4:07.91), and Tennessee’s Sam Rice (4:07.92) rounded out the top ten.
