Thomas Heilman Headlines Field for YMCA Nationals (Psych Sheets)

The annual YMCA National Short Course Championships are scheduled to get underway today and run through April 4 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. One of the main storylines to watch will be the performances of Thomas Heilman, a member of Team USA at last summer’s Olympic Games in Paris.

Committed to the University of Virginia, Heilman is scheduled to compete in a number of events for the Piedmont Family YMCA, but his entries in the 100-yard butterfly and 200 fly will be most closely watched. Heilman is the National Age Group (NAG) record-holder in both of those events, with respective times of 43.86 and 1:38.95, and it will be interesting to see if Heilman can take the standards even lower.

York’s Molly Yacoviello will be one to watch in the women’s meet, as she is the reigning champion in the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke. Yacoviello enters the meet with a seed time of 2:10.87 in the 200 breast, which puts her in striking distance of the meet record of 2:10.44.

Meanwhile, Alana Berlin is the top seed in multiple events, including the 200 individual medley, where she sits atop the entries at 1:57.54.

Alabama recruit Jonathan Hoole, who recently swept the sprint-freestyle events at the PIAA Class AAA (Pennsylvania) Championships is the top seed in the 50 freestyle and seeded second in the 100 freestyle.
