Olivia Smoliga Gets DQ Overturned; Caeleb Dressel Outduels Chase Kalisz at Atlanta Classic
The second night of the 2019 Atlanta Classic had plenty of drama in its final session.
Olivia Smoliga was disqualified in the 100 back, only to be reinstated and have her meet record in the event upheld.
Meanwhile, Caeleb Dressel outdueled Chase Kalisz in the 200 fly, an event longer than most of Dressel’s previous heroics.
Hali Flickinger competed in three events and earned two victories and one runner-up finish.
Check out the rest of what happened in the Day 2 finals.
Women’s 200 Fly
The session didn’t start with a ton of drama. Predictably, Hali Flickinger won the 200 fly, winning easily in2:06.98 to break her own meet record by nearly two seconds.
The time was also four seconds faster than the rest of the field, and an Olympic trials cut.
Leah Gingrich finished second in 2:10.95, followed by Dakota Luther (2:11.86), Abby Harter (2:13.96) and Lindsay Looney (2:16.77).
The top five times qualified for nationals and the Olympic trials.
