Women’s Meet
The Washington and Lee Generals were on top again, and this time by a very large margin. Stephanie Foster, Jillian Leigh, Kira Tomenchok, and Jordan Watson turned in a 1:49.08 to take the top seed in the 200 medley relay. Emory and Henry’s Lauren Belcher, Brianna Chessock, Adaira Brewer, and Kelsey Jones stopped the clock at 1:56.34 to earn second. Lindsey Oteyza, Amanda Bengston, Haylie Moore, and Mollie Smith earned third (1:57.74) for Randolph-Macon.
Washington and Lee teammates Emma Swabb and Haylee Rademann finished in 4:41.22 and 4:41.73 for the top two seeds in the 400 IM. Emory and Henry’s Taylor Guardalabene finished third (4:45.64).
Sophomore Generals earned the top three seeds in the 100 butterfly. Cassidy Fuller (57.41) broke Tomenchok’s meet and open record (57.47). Tomenchok took second (58.16), while Mara Tyann snagged third (59.16). The race could be tight tonight with the pride of a record on the line.
Elisabeth Holmes was just off her own ODAC record in the 200 freestyle. The junior earned the top seed (1:53.51) ahead of teammate Elle Chancey (1:54.80). Another general, Watson (1:57.37) rounded out the top three.
Emory and Henry’s Michaela Nolte destroyed her own meet (1:05.23) and open (1:04.99) records, clocking a 1:03.97 100 breaststroke. That swim is under the 2015 NCAA Invited time. W&L’s Sarah Schaffer earned second (1:06.73), while the third seed went to Claire Webber of Hollins. The senior dropped a staggering 4.70 seconds this morning.
Emily Rollo broke her own open (56.47) record and Tomenchok’s meet (56.77) record with a 56.29 in the 100 backstroke. Stephanie Foster earned the second seed (57.73) while Tomenchok grabbed third (58.08).
The 800 freestyle relay will be swum as timed finals tonight.
Men’s Meet
Randolph-Macon snagged a top seed in the 200 medley relay. Ivan Fadeyev, Josh Carter, Robert Redenz, and Mohamed Saleh stopped the clock at 1:37.97. The Generals finished second (1:38.06) with the team of Patrick Lawrence, Colin McKinnon, Austin Choi, and Harrison Westgarth. Hampden-Sydney’s Hudson Elmore, John Dickerson, Conor O’Heir, and Ryan Mitchell earned the third seed (1:42.36).
Thomas Caldwell of Washington and Lee (4:08.47) and Fadeyev (4:13.86) will battle for Fadeyev’s ODAC record (4:05.61) tonight. General Alex Fox is the third seed in 4:20.00
W&L grabbed the top three spots in the 100 butterfly. Thomas Ferguson, Noah Schammel, and Choi swam times of 50.03, 50.72, and 52.81 this morning. A trio of Generals also paced the 200 freestyle. Corey Connelly stopped the clock at 1:43.73, just off Tommy Thetford‘s meet record (1:43.62). Thetford finished third this morning (1:45.39). Sam Childress was second (1:43.93).
General Trent Babcock tied Robert Redenz‘s meet and open record in the 100 breaststroke with his 58.24. Redenz was just behind in 58.26. The two should have an impressive race tonight. W&L’s John Carmody finished third in 59.06.
Randolph-Macon’s Saleh took the top seed in the 100 backstroke in 51.72. Andrew Botelho and Lawrence took second and third for the Generals in 53.14 and 53.78.
The men will also swim the 800 freestyle relay tonight.
