Notre Dame to Reinstate Men’s Swimming in 2025-26
Notre Dame on Wednesday announced it will reinstate its men’s swimming and diving team in 2025 after a year-long suspension.
The program was under investigation for what it had termed “culture issues” in the summer before a one-year suspension handed down in August for gambling within the program. The suspension was then denoted as being for “at least” the 2024-25 season, but Wednesday’s announcement brings a finite return date.
“Over the course of the last year, our men’s swimming team has taken the critical and necessary steps to correct the issues that led to the suspension of the program this past summer,” athletic director Pete Bevacqua said in a statement. “As a result, we have made the determination that our men’s swimming team will return to full competition next season. While we have all learned some difficult lessons through this process, we are confident that this team is set up for success in the future.”
The leadership of the program will presumably remain with Chris Lindauer, who has continued coaching the women’s team this year. The yearlong hiatus has already cost the program its biggest start in Paris Olympian Chris Guiliano, who entered the transfer portal and is competing at the University of Texas.
