New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference Championships Day 3 Prelims

The third day of the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference Championships began this morning. The prelims swims of the men’s and women’s 500 free, 100 back, 100 breast and 200 butterfly were swam.

The winner of the 400 IM, Melanie Tombers of Delta had the fastest time this morning in the women’s 500 free with a 5:01.89. West Florida’s Madeline Pitt went a 5:03.89 for the second quickest time of the morning and Abigail Isom from Delta touched third with a 5:05.72.

In the men’s 500 free Delta had the fastest two times of the morning. Nathan Sawicki finished first with a 4:34.08 and his teammate Makis Jorgensen came in second with a 4:36.70. Henderson’s Colton Laramore touched third going a 4:37.11.

Minnesota State Moorhead’s Erin Sullivan touched the wall first this morning in the women’s 100 back with a 55.19. Delta’s Anastasia Klyarovskaya came in second with a 55.55 and Southern Connecticut’s Erin Hart finished third in a 55.69.

Bogdan Pochynok of Henderson went a 49.40 in the men’s 100 back to be seeded first going into finals tonight. Delta’s Fabrice Wendel went a 49.64 for second and Alexander Podguzov from Ouachita finished third with a 49.89.

In the women’s 100 breast Delta’s Kirsten Stroven finished first with a 1:03.01 this morning. Minnesota State Moorhead’s Erin Fons took the second place seed with a 1:04.34 and Camille Leary from Henderson came in third this morning with a 1:05.20.

St. Cloud’s Justin Winnett had the fastest time in the men’s 100 breast this morning with a 54.47. Delta took second and third place seeds for finals tonight. Alex Peach touched second (55.36) and Matteo Fraschi finished third (56.31).

Theresa Michalak, the winner of the 100 butterfly and 200 IM, swam up from a no time seed to first place going into finals tonight. She went a 2:02.77 in the event, which is only a tenth behind the current NSISC record of 2:02.65. Delta came in second and third this morning with Danielle Dugas going a 2:06.19 and Kierstin Page touching in at a 2:06.31.

Winner of the men’s 100 fly, Max Pohl from Henderson put up the fastest time this morning in the men’s 200 butterfly with a 1:48.95. Delta’s Adam Charlton came in second this morning with a 1:50.47 and Ouachita’ Matt Cox came in third (1:52.21).

Finals will begin at 5 pm (CT) tonight.
