NCSA Junior Nationals: Distance Free, Medley Relays Comprise First Night’s Swimming

ORLANDO, Florida, March 16. THE first night of short course yard swimming at the NCSA Junior Nationals held on Orlando featured the distance freestyle events as well as the 200 medley relays. SwimmingWorld.TV was on hand to capture all the action for a live pay-per-view audience.

Nova of Virginia went 1-2 in the women's 1000 free with Rachel Naurath topping the distance event in 9:36.53. Teammate Alison Haulsee placed second in 9:45.28. Aquazot's Megan Rankin, 15, snagged third overall in 9:46.64. A pair of swimmers cleared 9:00 in the men's 1000 free. Lakeview's Clay Youngquist touched first in the event with an 8:58.61, while Hinsdale's Daniel Thompson took second in 8:59.43. Blue Tide's Matthew Barber wound up third in 9:05.12.

Aquajets' Rachel Bootsma, Abigail Duncan, Hailey Szews and Tess Behrens raced to victory in the women's 200 medley relay with a 1:39.40. Academy Bullets Mackenzie Powers, Karolina Wartalowicz, Olivia Scott and Mimi Schneider claimed second in 1:41.31, while Nova of Virginia's Elisabeth Worrell, Rebecca Rainer, Naurath and Allison Titley completed the top three in 1:42.35.

Poseidon's Samuel Rairden, Andrew Strait, Morgan Latimer and Ned Tyler won a close battle for the men's 200 medley relay with a winning time of 1:32.18. Curl Burke's Bradley Dillon, Charles Katis, James Crabb and Kevin Vest touched just behind with a second-place time of 1:32.23. Fox Valley's Grant Betulius, Kevin Cordes, Brien Gerber and Johannes Peters rounded out the podium with a third-place 1:32.28.
