NCAA Men’s Championships: Josh Liendo Out-Touches Jordan Crooks in Epic 100 Free

It has been tremendous for the sport watching Jordan Crooks and Josh Liendo go head-to-head for the past three years with NCAA titles on the line.
The 100 freestyle provided one more showdown in the friendly rivalry on the final night of the 2025 NCAA Division I Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Federal Way, Washington.
Crooks already made history in prelims when he threw down a 39.83, breaking the NCAA record set by Caeleb Dressel in 2018 (39.90).
Liendo had a strong prelims swim at 40.28 as well.
They turned together after 50 before Crooks took a narrow lead then kept going faster.
Then Liendo found another level.
The two-time champion in the event became a three-time champion with closing speed in the final 10 yards to win in 39.99. It wasn’t quite as fast as Crooks went in the morning, but enough for the title and third-best all-time.
Crooks, who was out faster, was just out-touched at 40.06 and his teammate Guilherme Caribe was third at 40.15.
Cal’s Jack Alexy finished fourth in 40.36, followed by Texas’ Chris Guiliano (40.53), Arizona State’s Jonny Kulow (40.84), LSU’s Jere Hribar (41.20) and Indiana’s Matthew King (41.28).
Tennessee’s Lamar Taylor and Luke Hobson tied for ninth with swims of 41.31 in an exciting consolation final.
