LAMEZIA TERME, Italy, November 10. FOR the third time in just the past two weeks, Matteo Rivolta has dropped the Italian record in the men’s 100-meter fly in short course meters competition.
This weekend at a meet in Lamezia Terme in Italy, Rivolta clocked a swift time of 50.77, downing Olympic silver medalist Evgeny Korotyshkin in the process. The Russian wound up posting just a 52.32, well behind Rivolta’s swim.
That performance downed his 50.84 from a week ago at the Nico Sapio Memorial meet in Genoa, which had plenty of SwimMAC swimmers in attendance before they, with special guest Natalie Coughlin, moved on to the Bolzano International Swim Meeting this weekend.
Rivolta previously had set the Italian record with a 50.87 from the Insubria Trophy meet two weeks ago, but has been on a roll as he continues to progress the mark. His time tonight moved him into the top 10 in the world, holding ninth ahead of Coleman Allen’s 50.90 from the Eindhoven stop of the World Cup.
