Lincoln Southwest Girls, Creighton Prep Boys Win Nebraska High School State Titles

The Lincoln Southwest girls and the Creighton Prep boys dominated today’s Nebraska State High School Championship.

Girls

The Lincoln Southwest team of Clara WalstadOlivia CaleganKaitlyn Witt, and Alana Palmer won the 200 medley relay by 10 seconds with a 1:39.68.

Palmer dominated the 200 freestyle with a 1:48.74. Her teammate Shelby Mullendore posted a 1:55.65 for second. Marian junior Cassie Palmer was third in 1:56.53.

Palmer was later second in the 50 freestyle in 23.07, just .03 behind Marian’s Naeleah Hadford (23.04). Walstad placed third (23.34).

Hadford was then runner up in the 100 freestyle in 51.00. Calegan won that one with her 49.48. Mullendore placed third (53.04).

Calegan took home the 100 breaststroke title in 1:01.70. Pius X’s Katie Stonehocker was runner up (1:03.73) and Calegan’s teammate Anne Heinrich finished third (1:05.01).

Pius X junior Caroline Theil topped the 200 IM in 2:01.63. Lincoln Southwest’s Berkeley Livingston swam a 2:05.11 for second and Stonehocker was third (2:06.58).

Livingtson finished in 5:06.00 for 500 freestyle victory ahead of Westside’s Laina Bayles (5:10.90) and Marian’s Palmer (5:12.98).

Lincoln Southwest won another one as Kaitlyn Witt touched in 54.77 in the 100 butterfly. She was followed by Theil (55.45) and Lincoln East’s Marusha Ather (58.16).

Calegan, Walstad, Heinrich, and Mullendore touched in 1:33.95 to win the 200 freestyle relay ahead of Marian’s Delaney DottkeOlivia TateKayla Fornall, and Naeleah Hadford (1:36.04).

Walstad dominated the 100 backstroke in 54.80 while Burke’s Elizabeth Richardson touched second in 57.34. Fremont’s Emma Walz took bronze (58.42).

Palmer, Livingston, Walstad, and Mullendore made it a relay sweep for Lincoln Southwest with a 3:29.40.

Lincoln Southwest won the meet with 496.5 points. Marian scored 297 points for second.

Boys

Creighton Prep’s Caleb PitiSamuel BuechlerRush Clark, and Michael Simmons touched in 1:35.46 to win the 200 medley relay just ahead of PLV’s Mark CavanaughNoah BarrGrayson Stanton, and Javier Quinones in 1:36.04.

Grand Island’s Matthew Novinski was the 200 freestyle champ in his 1:39.86. Lincoln Easy’s Joshua Roh touched second (1:41.43). Novinski also won the 100 backstroke in 48.72. Creighton Prep’s Colin LaFave finished second (50.24) and Ralston-Gross Catholic’s Lukas Hezel (50.91) was third.

LaFave won the 100 butterfly in 50.01 ahead of his teammate Rush Clark (51.80) in second Nolan Reid (51.31) of Lincoln Southwest in third.

Creighton Prep’s Piti and PLV’s Barr both touched in 1:54.10 to tie for the 200 IM state title. Conner Funke of Creighton Prep was third (1:55.49).

Cameron Carney of Norfolk out touched Trent Mischo of Millard North 21.20 to 21.23 in the 50 freestyle. Creighton Prep’s Nick Soltys was just behind for third in 21.32. Carney also captured the 100 freestyle in 45.97. Millard North’s Mischo (46.02) and Kearney’s Collin McKelvey (46.79) finished third.

Hezel won the 500 by a second in 4:42.48. Roh was second (4:43.94) and Westside’s Jackson Hanus (4:48.39) earned third.

LaFarve, Soltys, Funke, and William Tjaden swam a 1:25.74 to win the 200 freestyle relay, a quarter second faster than Norfolk’s Cameron CarneyKellen CarneyCaleb Harthoornand Seth Ruppert in 1:26.00.

Christian Howell of Bellevue West (57.22) and Barr (57.51) led the 100 breaststroke. Funke (59.50) finished third.

Tjaden, Soltys, Jon Gouger ,and LaFave completed the Creighton Prep relay sweep in 3:08.06 in the 400 freestyle relay.

Creighton Prep was dominant with 449.5 points while Norfolk scored 213 points for second.
