Katie Meili Sets 1 of 17 More National Marks at US Masters Champs
Seventeen short course yards US Masters national records fell on day three of the championship, taking place in Greensboro, North Carolina. The 50 freestyle was the only event where all of the records stayed on the books.
Jim McConica set the first national record of the day in the 65-69 year old men’s 500 freestyle, finishing in 5:29.10, five seconds under the old mark.
Charlotte Davis recorded her third national mark in two days, stopping the clock at 1:10.12 in the 65-69 year old 100 butterfly. She reset another standard with her 2:35.07 in the 200 IM.
Thomas Maine set his second 90-94 year old butterfly national record with a 2:06.88 in the 100. Later in the 200 IM, he finished in national record time of 4:02.84.
Katie Meili bested Megan Jendrick‘s six year old 25-29 age division national record in the 50 breaststroke, stopping the clock in 27.10, just under the 27.14.
Robert Strand set his second national record of the weekend with a dominant win in the 70-74 year old men’s 50 breaststroke, stopping the clock in 31.70, five seconds ahead of the second place finisher, and well under the old record of 32.86.
Mike Freshley posted his second national record in breaststroke this weekend for the 75-79 year olds, finishing in 34.95 in the 50, besting a 10 year old record.
Kathy Slifer touched in 2:59.60 to set a national record for the 70-74 year old women in the 200 IM. Adding to his national record in yesterday’s 200 fly, Lawrence Day slipped under the mark in the 65-69 year old men’s 200 IM, stopping the clock in 2:16.17.
Robert Strand finished the 70-74 year old’s 200 IM in 2:26.42, another national record. Mike Freshley‘s 2:35.67 also set a new standard for 75-79 year olds.
Tom Barton crushed the 60-64 year old men’s 100 backstroke record with a time of 57.46, well below the 2008 record of 59.29. Yoshi Oyakawa added to his 50 backstroke record, with a 1:18.23 today in the 100, setting a new standard for 80-84 year olds.
1693 set an 18 and up women’s 200 freestyle relay record as Gabrielle Mizerak, Sara Shaner, Courtney Hurtubise, and Katie Grier combined for a 1:35.66.
The Olympic Club’s quartet of Jonathan Leopold, Scott Greenwood, Kevin Ferguson, and Andrew Saeta put together a national record setting performance in the 25 and up men’s 200 freestyle relay, finishing in 1:20.22.
In the mixed 18 and up 200 medley relay, Andrew Seata, Colin Babcock, Anna Senko, and Mikkel-Ane Stipe combined for a national record of 1:35.89 for the Olympic Club.
