Race Video: Josh Schneider Wins 50 Free Shootout At Oklahoma Pro-Am Day 3

Perhaps the most exciting installment in the Pro-Ams is the 50 free shootout, a format where the top two seeds after the 50 free semifinals face off in one final duel. Tonight’s men’s 50-free shootout at the 2015 American Energy Elite Pro-Am in Edmond, Oklahoma yielded a top-tier matchup after an exciting semifinal. 

Josh Schneider topped tonight’s exhilarating duel in the men’s final shootout of the 50-yard free with a 19.03. The veteran touched ahead of James Feigen who swam a 19.25. Michael Andrew, who did not qualify for the final swim-off, ended up third with his 19.24.

Madison Kennedy began the 50 free shootouts with an overwhelming 21.68 victory in the women’s final of the 50-yard free. Natalie Jones trailed Kennedy with a 23.54, edging out third-place finisher Martina Thomas, who clocked a 23.77.

Luciana Thomas won the women’s 200-yard IM in a 2:03.21 in comeback fashion ahead of Cailey Grunhard. Grunhard held the lead after the breaststroke leg, but fell to second with a 2:04.95. Taylor Pike rounded out the top three in 2:06.52.

In the men’s 200-yard IM, Darian Townsend recorded a 1:44.27 to claim first place. Paul Le took second in 1:46.72, while Hayden Harlow was a distant third in 1:52.12.

Breeja Larson stormed to a huge victory in the women’s 200-meter breast, taking first with an 11-second cushion ahead of second-place finisher Hanna Newby. Larson clocked a 2:07.47 to take the event, while Newby finished second in 2:18.46. Katherine Steward wound up third with a 2:19.06.

Cody Miller also had a dominant performance in the men’s 200-yard breast, winning in 1:49.74. The next closest finisher, Mike Alexandrov, claimed second with a 1:56.82, while Hayden Harlow rounded out the top three in 2:06.70.

In the women’s 100-yard back, Cailey Grunhard took the crown in a 55.93 after taking the race out in a quick 26.97. Sarah Allegri followed in second with a 56.49, while Martina Thomas clocked a 56.99 to get third.

Miguel Ortiz raked in a win in the men’s 100-yard back with his 45.78 effort. James Wells took second in 46.92, and Paul Le claimed third with his 47.20.

Freestyle stud Lindsay Vrooman gutted out a 4:36.51 to win the women’s 500-yard free in wire-to-wire fashion. Vrooman touched with more than a one-lap advantage over the closest swimmer, Hayley Pike. Pike posted a 4:56.90, while Liberty Howell came in third with a 4:59.13.

Distance man Zane Grothe dominated the men’s 500-yard free with a huge 4:12.98 win. Grothe’s splits stayed under 52 seconds the entire race as he went on to win by nearly 27 seconds. Jack Little (4:39.06) took second, while Alan Tran wound up third in 4:51.53.

The Razorback Aquatic Club’s women were victorious in the women’s 400-yard medley relay. Luciana Thomas (58.66), Olivia Keith (1:06.99), Taylor Pike (split failed to register), and Martina Thomas (split failed to register) combined for a 3:50.95 final time. The American Energy Swim Club team of Josh Davis (51.87), Quinn Bunnag (59.29), Joseph Short (48.84), and Jonathan Ye (45.85) won the men’s 400-yard medley relay.

The 2015 American Energy Elite Pro-Am concludes tomorrow.
