Jere Hribar Impressive as LSU Knocks Off Alabama and Florida State
The Louisiana State University Tigers hosted Alabama and Florida State in dual meet action Friday and secured four victories, but the men’s team had to work especially hard to edge out the Crimson Tide and the Seminoles by merely five and seven points, respectively.

LSU’s men dominated the 200 medley relay to start off competition. The team of Stepan Goncharov, Volodymyr Lisovets, Caleb Ellis and Jere Hribar recorded a time of 1:23.26, with Hribar closing in a sizzling 18.13 freestyle split. Hribar went on to dominate the 50 freestyle with a time of 18.89, and he was back to seal up first place in the 100 free in 41.48. Hribar concluded his day with a superb 40.47 split on the Tigers’ 400 free relay. He combined with Andrew Garon, Simon Meubry and Diggory Dillingham to win in 2:51.25.
Lisovets dominated the 100 breaststroke in 52.13, and he pulled away to take first in the 200 as well (1:54.95). LSU’s Carson Paul won 3-meter diving (428.60) as well as 1-meter (388.30).
Alabama picked up a 1-2 finish in the 1000 free to start the day, with Leonardo Alcantara winning in 8:53.40 while Joao Pierre Campos took second (8:56.08). The Crimson Tide’s Tommy Hagar surged home to win the 100 backstroke by three hundredths, going 46.17 to beat out FSU’s Max Wilson (46.20), and Hagar won again in the 200 back in 1:41.38. The 500 free was a repeat of the 1000, with Alcantara winning (4:18.68) and Pierre Campos placing second (4:19.85).
Florida State’s Logan Robinson came from behind to edge LSU’s Meubry in the 200 free, 1:35.27 to 1:35.36. Mathias Christensen held on to take first in the 200 butterfly in 1:43.17, and Michel Arkhangelskiy placed first in the 100 fly (45.82). Robinson took second in both events for big Seminole points. Christensen then beat out Hagar to win the 200 IM, 1:44.92 to 1:45.34.
In the women’s meet, Nicole Santuliana got things started with a first-place finish in the 1000 free (9:44.67) before Megan Barnes came home atop the 200 free (1:45.71). Zoe Carlos-Broc continued the winning streak in the 100 back, going 51.60 to beat out Alabama’s Emily Jones by five hundredths. The 100 breast went to LSU’s Sabrina Lyn in 59.63, and Sofia Sartori dominated the 200 fly in 1:53.34.
Martina Bukvic finished almost four seconds ahead of the field in the 200 breast (2:09.92), and Barnes doubled up with a win in the 500 free (4:42.84), with Santuliana finishing well to take second (4:43.75). Sartori completed the butterfly sweep over 100 yards (51.51), and Carlos-Broc beat the field by almost three seconds in the 200 IM (1:57.70).
The Alabama women won the 200 medley relay in 1:35.81 to start the meet, with the team of Jones, Jada Scott, Gaby Van Brunt and Charlotte Rosendale winning by less than two tenths over LSU. Cadence Vincent won the 50 free in 21.93, beating LSU’s Michaela De Villiers by one hundredth. Vincent also won the 100 free, her time of 48.13 beating De Villiers by six tenths, while Jones came in first in the 200 back (1:53.55).
Vincent was even faster leading off the 400 free rleay, going 47.92, and she combined with Jones, Scott and Rosendale to win in 3:13.27. The final event came down to the wire, with LSU’s De Villiers and Avery Littlefield each splitting 47s, only for the Tide to hold on by two hundredths down the stretch.
In diving, Alabama’s Rin Drudge won 1-meter (282.50) while Florida State’s only win came from Evelyn Hall in 3-meter (306.00).
