Two swimmers finished under Olympic Trials cuts in the third night of action at the Speedo Sectionals in Jenks, Oklahoma.
Martin Wallace slid under the Olympic Trials standard in the men’s 200 butterfly. The unattached 21 year old touched in 2:01.69, three tenths under the cut. Magnus Poulsen, another unattached swimmer, finished second in 2:03.98. Columbia Swim Club’s Dane Florea finished third in 2:05.91.
After claiming two events last night, CSP’s Genevieve Pfeifer was back tonight, crushing the field in the 400 freestyle. The sixteen year old finished in 4:19.94, ahead of Wichita Aqua Shocks’ Katelyn Blattner (4:25.86) and King Marlin’s Rylee Linhardt (4:26.18).
Empire Swim Club’s William Bresette claimed the men’s 400 freestyle tonight, touching in 4:01.19. Trident’s Kevin Callan just out touched Columbia Swim Club’s Alexander Tschopp 4:04.40 to 4:04.56 as the two finished second and third.
Lawrence Aquahawks’ Victoria Beeler dropped seven seconds this morning, and another one tonight to win the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.85. Missouri State’s Lauren Pavel finished second in 1:12.53, just ahead of Columbia’s Nicole Williams who posted a 1:12.74.
Vitor Da Franca of Oklahoma Baptist squeaked out a narrow victory in the 100 breaststroke, stopping the clock at 1:04.49, just ahead of Nicholas Staver, unattached (1:04.57). Club North’s Elliott Eisele-Miller finished third with a 1:05.00.
Taylor Pike of Razorback Aquatics was well off her own lifetime best, but just under the Olympic Trials standard in the 200 butterfly. The sixteen year old posted a 2:14.90 to lead the field. Ellen Flanagan was second for Columbia Swim Club with her 2:18.91. Teammate Brittany Wen was back in third with a 2:21.89.
The top three teams had a close race in women’s 800 freestyle relay. The CSP Tideriders were first to the wall as the team of Pfeifer, Helen Wojdylo, Gabriela Vieira and Sarah Finlay finished in 8:30.06. Rockwood swim club’s Jordan Stout, Anna Luckenbach, Alyssa Lemon, and Franceska Petrosino touched second in 8:31.69. The Kansas City Blazers posted a third place time of 8:32.87 with the team of Taylor Acheson, Bentley Hulshof, Christine Blomquist, and Katherine Sullivan.
In the men’s 800 freestyle relay the top three teams were all under eight minutes. Columbia Swim Club touched first in a time of 7:50.57 thanks to the team of Florea, Tschopp, John Ragsdell, and a fourth swimmer, unnamed in results. Oklahoma Baptist’s Alexander Mundt, Fernando Morillas, Kristijan Stunkovic, and Jonathan Stewart claimed second in 7:56.76. Third place (7:59.61) went to the Empire Swim Club team of Philip Musser, Zachary Andrews, Andrew Iseman, and Bresette.
