Jan Hansen Wins Two Individual Events At Jean Freeman Invite
It was a good day for the hosts at the Jean Freeman Invitational. The Minnesota Gophers won 14 of Friday’s 20 events.
Finals began with the women’s 800-yard freestyle relay. Gustavus Adolphus College brought home the title in 8:00.90. In the men’s race, South Dakota State won in 7:07.28, a NCAA ‘B’ time standard.
In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the home team won both the men’s and women’s events. The Minnesota women won with a time of 1:32.12 and the men took first with a time of 1:22.70.
The first individual event of the day was the women’s 500-yard freestyle. Minnesota’s Brooke Zeiger took the race in 4:55.55. Jan Hansen won the men’s race for the Gophers in 4:34.64.
In the women’s 200-yard individual medley, Kate Holmquist of Minnesota won by over a second with a time of 2:05.40. The Gophers also took the men’s race. Brian Poon won with a time of 1:50.10.
Minnesota’s Allison Schumacher sprinted to victory in the women’s 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.20. Bowen Beckers won the men’s race for the Gophers with a time of 20.39.
St. Thomas’ Emma Paulson ended Minnesota’s win streak. Paulson won the women’s 200-yard backstroke in 1:59.03. Daryl Turner of Minnesota won the men’s race in 1:47.27.
San Diego State’s Kristin Erf took the women’s 100-yard breaststroke in 1:03.22, only one-hundredth of a second ahead of the second place finisher. Minnesota’s Conner McHugh earned a ‘B’ time standard and won the men’s event in 55.36.
Lauren Votava of Minnesota won the women’s 200-yard butterfly in 1:59.39. The Gopher’s Nick Orf picked up the men’s title in 1:52.18.
Danielle Nack of Minnesota won the 200-yard freestyle in 1:48.97. Hansen took the men’s event in 1:39.84.
The night concluded with the 400-yard medley relay. Gustavus Adolphus won the women’s event in 3:58.38. South Dakota State took the men’s title in 3:28.21.
Tomorrow is the second and final day of the Jean Freeman Invitational.
