Jack Manchester Sets Meet Record As Harvard Wins 24th Ivy League Title
Harvard captured its 24th overall Men’s Ivy League team title and its first since 2014 on Saturday night in their home pool on Saturday night. They did not have to battle with Princeton this year, so they won the meet going away with a nearly 400 point win over second place Penn.
The night started off with a win from Yale’s Kei Hyogo in the 1650 at 14:47.01 for Yale’s first 1650 win in the Ivy League since 1994. Harvard finished 2-3 with sophomores Brennan Novak and Logan Houck at 14:54.06 and 15:00.97 respectively.

The one meet record to fall on the night went the way of Harvard senior Jack Manchester in the 200 back. Manchester went 1:40.76 to break his old record from 2015 at 1:41.44. It was Harvard’s first win in the 200 back since Manchester won it as a freshman in 2014. He had a commanding win over Columbia’s Michal Zyla (1:43.87) and Harvard’s Daniel Tran (1:44.44).

He just missed the meet record of 41.91 held by Yale’s Alex Righi set in 2009. Farris was hardly challenged in the race as his teammate, Ed Kim, was second at 43.70 just ahead of Yale’s Aaron Greenberg (43.75).

The 200 breast was a back and forth race between the top two but it was ultimately Alex Evdokimov of Cornell, who out-touched Harvard’s Shane McNamara 1:53.72-1:53.82. Those two are both juniors, so expect a grudge match next year at the 2018 Ivy’s where they could challenge the meet record Evdokimov set last year at 1:53.56. This was Evdokimov’s third straight 200 breast win at the Ivy League Championships and he will be going for a four peat next year. Harvard’s Eric Ronda rounded out the top three with a 1:57.36.
