Harvard Hires Dawn Dill as Assistant Coach
Harvard on Thursday announced the hiring of Dawn Dill as an assistant coach for the swimming and diving program, the last addition to new head coach Amanda Kulik’s staff, Kulik having been hired late in the summer.
Dill was most recently an assistant coach at Wellesley College for five seasons. She culminated her tenure there by qualifying a 200 medley relay to the NCAA Division III Championships, something the program hadn’t had for 30 years.
“We are thrilled to welcome Dawn to the coaching staff,” Kulik said in a university statement. “She brings a wealth of sport-specific knowledge, head-coaching wisdom and tremendous enthusiasm. Her coaching philosophy aligns beautifully with our team culture and vision. We are grateful to have her onboard!”
Dill was previously the head coach of the men’s and women’s programs at MIT for 12 years, where she was one of the most well-regarded coaches in Division III. She led them to 10 NEWMAC team titles, three times named the NEWMAC Swimming Coach of the Year. The women collected four and the men eight top-10 finishes at the NCAA Division III Championships. She coached 125 All-American performers and served as an associated professor of physical education.
Dill swam at Smith College, a seven-time All-American and a two-time Academic All-American. The received her bachelor’s degree in 1996.
Smith first coached at her alma mater from 1999-2001. She joined Vassar College as an assistant coach and then as an interim head coach in 2002-03. In that stint, she led the team to its highest ever finish at the NYSWCAA Championships.
