Haley Lips Wins Two Events On Final Day Of Hoosierland Invite
Saturday marked the end of the 2015 Hoosierland Invitation.
Finals started in the afternoon with the men’s and women’s distance events. In the women’s 1500-yard freestyle, Indiana’s Haley Lips won in 16:11.59. In the men’s 1650-yard freestyle, Chris Bready brought home the victory for the Hoosiers in 15:10.99.
The evening session began with the women 200-yard backstroke. Indiana’s Marie Chamberlain won the 200-yard backstroke with a time of 1:55.25. After a strong day two, Bob Glover of Indiana picked up a win in the men’s event. He posted a time of 1:42.02.
Cincinnati’s Jackie Keire won the 100-yard freestyle. She posted a time of 48.35. Daniel Kanorr, swimming unattached for Indiana, won the men’s event in 43.45.
Indiana’s Laura Morley won the women’s 200-yard breaststroke. Morley won by nearly two seconds with a time of 2:14.49. Indiana’s Tanner Kurz brought home the title in the men’s event with a time of 1:54.35.
Gia Dalesandro earned a victory for the Hoosiers in the women’s 200-yard butterfly. She posted a time of 1:56.85. Indiana’s Max Irwin placed first in the men’s event with a time of 1:43.75, over two seconds ahead of teammate Ryan DePietro.
Indiana finished in first, second and third place in the women’s 400-yard freestyle relay. Their first place team consisted of Lips, Gabi Rajic, Holly Spears and Grace Vertigans. The Hoosiers also won the men’s relay. Their team of Oliver Patrouch, Sam Lorentz, Kurz and Ali Khalafalla posted a time of 2:55.42.
Much like the first two days of the meet, Indiana dominated on Saturday. Other than the women’s 100-yard freestyle, Indiana won every one of the day’s event. The Hoosiers are ranked 11th nationally on the women’s side and 12th for the men.
Many of Indiana’s strongest swimmers did not swim at the meet, instead competing at the AT&T Winter National Championships in Federal Way, Washington.
