Hackett’s old record was 14:10.10 from Aussie Nationals Perth August 7, 2001, just about a week after he won the gold and set the world-record in the “mile” the World Championships in Fukuoka (July 29). That time (14:34.56) remains his career-best, the Commonwealth Record and is thid-fastest performance all-time behind Sr. Sun’s wr from London and his World Championships record Shanghai a year later.

Figure Paltrinieri canknock off a few mas seconds fom that time b4 he finally hangs up his “Speedo: say after Toyo…will anybody ever go sub 1400.0? Forty-plus years ago a sub 16:000 lcm me was deeemed ipossible and then along cme Mike Buton/Rick Demont. en everybody said sub-15:00.0 was undoable until Sr, Salnikov dooed it. Records are made tto be broken, ightt, Katinka?
