Franziska Hentke Rockets to First in 200 Fly World Rankings at German Nationals
Day three of the 2017 German National Championships continued with three swimmers moving into the top 20 world rankings for 2017. Most notably was Franziska Hentke’s dominating appearance in the women’s 200 fly, where she swam to first in the world rankings with a sizzling time of 2:06.18.
Women’s 100 Breast
Vanessa Grimberg kickstarted day three finals with a close win over Jessica Steiger in the women’s 100 breast. At the 50-meter mark, Grimberg held a lead of a slim .01 seconds, but was able to hold off the charging Steiger and finish first with a 1:07.80. Steiger took second overall with a time of 1:07.95.
Michelle Lambert grabbed third overall with a time of 1:09.52.
Men’s 400 IM
Jacob Heidtmann cruised to victory in the men’s 400 IM finals, finishing close to two seconds ahead of the competition. Heidtmann, the national record holder in this event, touched with a final time of 4:15.87 for gold.
Kevin Wedel finished second overall with a time of 4:17.55, followed by Ramon Klenz’s 4:21.59.
Women’s 100 Free
Nina Kost sprinted to the top of the podium in the women’s 100 free, stopping the clock at a top showing of 54.99.
A swift second 50-meters from Reva Foos concluded in a tie for second with Anna Dietterle. The two shared the silver with matching times of 55.28.
Men’s 100 Free
Damian Wierling turned in the top time in the men’s 100 free, finishing over half a second ahead of the competition. Wierling’s final time of 48.68 squeaks into the top 20 world rankings by tying him at 19th with France’s Jeremy Stravius and Canada’s Yuri Kisil.
Marius Kusch took second overall with a time of 49.25, followed by Christoph Hildebrandt’s 49.30.
Women’s 200 Fly
Franziska Hentke threw down a monstrous 2:06.18 in finals of the women’s 200 fly, rocketing to first in the world rankings for 2017. Hentke’s time replaces Japan’s Suzuka Hasegawa as the top time in the world by .11 seconds.
Martina van Berkel picked up second overall with a time of 2:09.57, while Julia Mrozinski was third with a 2:10.99.
Men’s 200 Back
Christian Diener posted the top time in finals of the men’s 200 back at a 1:57.51. His time moves him into the top 20 world rankings for 2017, settling in at number 19.
Andreas Wiesner finished second with a time of 1:59.75, making him the only other athlete to finish beneath the two minute mark.
Marek Ulrich touched third overall with a time of 2:01.24.
Women’s 200 IM
Maxine Wolters claimed gold in the women’s 200 IM, stopping the clock at a final time of 2:13.57.
She was followed to the wall by Franziska Weidner and Juliane Reinhold, who rounded out the podium with times of 2:14.76 and 2:15.29.
Women’s 50 Back
Laura Riedemann picked up a narrow victory in finals of the women’s 50 back, finishing first .06 seconds. Riedemann touched first with a time of 28.25, followed closely by Johanna Roas‘ 28.31.
Nadine Laemmler completed the podium with a time of 28.58.
Men’s 50 Breast
Christian vom Lehn finished the session with a top showing in the men’s 50 breast. Vom Lehn turned in a 27.77 for the gold, followed by Fabian Schwingenschlogl’s time of 27.95.
Erik Steinhagen touched third overall with a time of 28.13.
