Dynamo Swim Club Takes 800 Freestyle On Day One of Nashville Sectionals

The Nashville Speedo Sectional Championships began tonight. Open to both Eastern and Southern Zones, this meet is being help at the Centennial Sportsplex in Nashville, TN. 59 teams are entered in the meet as well as a plethora of unattached swimmers.
The meet began with the men’s and women’s 800 freestyle swam as a finals only event. Going into the meet was Dynamo Swim Club’s Emma Layton, 16, was entered with the fastest time of 8:51.29. Bryn Handley, 19, (8:53.16) and Paige Kelly, 19, (9:06.36) were entered second and third, unattached.
In the men’s event, Dynamo’s Jeffrey Durmer, 16, was entered with the fastest time of a 8:32.32. Sadler McKeen of Life Time South East Swim Team was entered with the second fastest time of 8:33.26 and Laurel Swim Association’s Kash Eason third (8:35.60).
Finals Results
Layton of Dynamo secured the win in the women’s 800 free tonight with a 8:57.41. This was six seconds behind her entry time however. Kelly, unattached, came in second place, dropping four seconds and touching the wall at a 9:02.38. Handley, unattached, came in a close third place with a 9:02.38. She was off her entry time by nine seconds.
In the men’s event Dynamo Swim Club also took the gold. Durmer bested his entry tome by six seconds and won the 800 free with a 8:26.01. In a close second place was Eason of Laurel Swim Association, who finished in the time of 8:26.80. Durmer’s Dynamo teammate Alex Ballard took the bronze medal after dropping 14 seconds in the event tonight touching the wall with a 8:35.12.
Day two prelims will begin tomorrow morning at 9 am (ST). The prelims of the men’s and women’s 200 free, 100 breast, 100 butterfly and 400 IM will be swam.
