Duke Women, Northwestern Men Take Wins in Two-Day Meet

Northwestern hosted Duke for a two-day meet Friday and Saturday, and the result was a split. The Blue Devil women came out on top 192-142 while the Wildcat men dominated by a 216-118 margin.

Duke’s top team finished almost three seconds ahead in the 400 freestyle relay. Tatum Wall led off in 47.70, and she was followed by Ali PfaffEmily Gantriis and Heather White on the way to a time of 3:13.22. Pfaff won the 100 backstroke in 51.53, and Kaelyn Gridley dominated the 100 breaststroke with a time of 59.21.

Martina Peroni beat the field by two seconds in the 200 butterfly (1:57.28), and Wall blasted a time of 21.93 to take the 50 free win. In diving, Duke’s Keira Lu won 3-meter (330.00), and the team of Pfaff, Gridley, White and Wall posted a time of 1:36.73 to win the 200 medley relay. Wall finished off her brilliant day with a 21.43 anchor split.

On day two, the team of Clare Logan, Gridley, White and Wall captured the 400 medley relay in 3:32.31. Lu again won on the boards, this time in 1-meter (303.75), and Pfaff won the 200 back in 1:53.59. Gridley’s second breaststroke win came over 200 yards (2:09.93), and Wall swam 48.09 to comfortably win the 100 free. White grabbed first in the 100 fly (53.73) before anchoring a team also including Wall, Pfaff and Gantriis in a come-from-behind win over Northwestern in the 200 free relay. The Blue Devils clocked 1:29.28 to the Wildcats’ 1:29.36.

For Northwestern, Zoe Nordmann topped the 1000 free (9:44.60) and 500 free (4:45.51), and Sydney Smith was first in the 200 free (1:46.45) and 200 IM (2:01.13).

Northwestern’s men started out with Joshua Staples capturing the 200 free (1:36.28), followed by David Gerchik taking the 100 back (47.53) and Oliver Kos winning the 200 fly (1:45.08). Stuart Seymour won the 50 free in 19.59, and he swam butterfly on Northwestern’s winning 200 medley relay. Gerchik, Staples and Connor Schuster were the other swimmers on the way to a time of 1:26.49.

On day two, Seymour, Staples, Schuster and Kos won the 400 medley relay in dominant fashion (3:08.57). Diego Nosack finished six seconds ahead in the 500 free (4:22.65) before Gerchik held on to win the 200 back (1:44.27). Northwestern was also dominant in diving, with Adam Cohen winning 1-meter (335.10) and Kyle Ly taking 3-meter (381.53). Kos won the 100 free (43.87) and Schuster the 100 fly (46.83) while Staples secured a second win in the 200 IM (1:45.86). Schuster, Seymour, Kos and Gerchik clocked 1:19.19 to win the 200 medley relay

Duke’s team of Milo ShueOwen WaibelCharlie Kulp and Colin Mikulecky won the 400 free relay (2:56.97) while Anderson Kopp was first in the 1000 free (9:12.74). Jack Smith took the win in the 100 breast (54.14) while Raphael Wang was victorious in the 200 breast (1:56.82).
