Dates Announced For 2026 European Championships In Paris
The 2026 European Championships will run from 31 July to 16 August with the pool programme taking place in the latter half of the event in Paris.
Artistic swimming and diving will both start on 31 July and conclude on 5 and 6 August respectively with open water swimming taking place in the Seine from 4-8 August. The Olympic marathon swimming was also contested in the river that threads through the French capital where there were issues over water quality and athletes fell sick with Kristof Rasovszky and Sharon van Rouwendaal emerging as respective champions. High diving dates are yet to be announced by European Aquatics.

The pool programme runs from 10-16 August at the Olympic Aquatic Centre in Paris St Denis, the only permanent sports facility built for the 2024 Olympics
Leon Marchand brought down the house at La Defense Arena last year. Four gold medals and a relay bronze put him in select company with only Michael Phelps (twice), Mark Spitz and Kristin Otto having accumulated that many individual golds in the pool at a single Olympics.
He was one of three individual French medallists along with Anastasia Kirpichnikova who took silver in the 1500 and Florent Manaudou whose bronze ensured a fourth straight 50 free medal.
The 38th edition of the European Aquatics Championships will take place in Paris 100 years after they were first held in Budapest in 1926.
With the Commonwealth Games taking place every quadrennial and the Europeans on a biennial basis, it means that both competitions are held in the same year every four years. Given the pool programme is in the latter half of the Europeans, it means there won’t be an overlap between the two competitions with diving not on the schedule in Glasgow. The United Kingdom – which competes at the Commonwealths as Scotland, England, Wales and Northern Ireland – are one of the European nations that could compete at both events.
In 2022, the Commonwealths ran in Birmingham from 29 July – 3 August with the Europeans getting underway on 11 August.
