CSCAA Announces NCAA Division II Championship Award Recipients
GENEVA, Ohio, March 15. THE College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) announces the following award recipients from the 2014 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships.
Diving Awards:
The CSCAA DII Female Diver of the Year Award was presented to Kristin Day from Clarion University, while the Male Diver of the Year Award went to her teammate, Heath Calhoun. Day swept both boards with a new championship record in the three-meter event. Calhoun finished the championship with a record setting win on the three-meter board and a second place showing in the one-meter event. Their coach, Dave Hrovat, was selected as both the CSCAA DII Men’s Team and Women’s Team Diving Coach of the Year. This is the 13th time that Hrovat has earned the CSCAA Women’s Diving Coach of the Year Award and the 10th CSCAA Men’s Diving Coach of the Year honor. His athletes have earned 41 individual NCAA DII titles and over 245 CSCAA All-America citations.
Swimming Awards:
Kitty Fischer from West Chester University was named the 2014 CSCAA D II Female Swimmer of the Year. Fischer won titles in the 200 Individual Medley and the 200 Freestyle while finishing second in both breaststroke events leading the Golden Rams to a 4th place finish. The junior established a new record in the 200 Individual Medley touching the wall in 1:59.21.
Freshman Matthew Josa, from Queens University of Charlotte, was named the CSCAA DII Male Swimmer of the Year. Josa won three individual events establishing new records in all three with a 1:43.96 in the 200 Individual Medley, 45.45 in the 100 Butterfly and 1:40.74 in the 200 Backstroke. Josa also broke the 200 Freestyle record (1:34.21) leading off Queen’s first place 800 Freestyle Relay and helped Queen’s set a new DII Record of 3:11.10 in the 400 Medley Relay.
Sean Peters of Wayne State University was named the CSCAA DII Women’s Coach of the Year after leading the Warriors to a second place finish. Peters’ women’s squad won four individual titles and another in the 200 Freestyle Relay.
Brian Reynolds, head coach of the Drury University Panthers, was selected as the CSCAA DII Men’s Coach of the Year after leading his teams to both the NCAA Men’s and Women’s 2014 Swimming and Diving Championships. The Drury men won their tenth consecutive title, a record for Division II. This is Reynolds seventh CSCAA DII Men’s Coach of the Year Award.
