Courtney Harnish, Ross Dant Top Distance Events at 2017 YMCA SC Nationals

The 2017 YMCA National Short Course Championships splashed into action with the men’s and women’s 1000 yard free.
York delivered a 1-2 punch in the women’s 1000 free with top finishes from Courtney Harnish and Leah Braswell. Harnish stopped the clock at a 9:39.92 for first, while Braswell was second with a 9:48.55. Sunbury’s Abigail Doss finished third overall with a time of 9:49.11.

On the men’s side it was Ross Dant of Hickory with the only sub-9 minute swim. Dant turned in a final 8:57.64 to finish more than three seconds ahead of the competition. Wilton’s Robby Giller was second overall with a 9:01.12, followed by Somerset Valley’s Ryan Waters’ 9:07.48.

Harnish moves into #26 all time in 17-18 ranks;
Dant, possibly deserving a bit more acknowledgement than just “…the only sub-9 min swim,” moved into #7 all-time in 15-16 ranks.
