Charlotte Bonnet, Suo Ran, Vien Nguyen Down Meet Marks at 2015 World Military Games
France’s Charlotte Bonnet, China’s Suo Ran and Vietnam’s Vien Nguyen each broke a meet record during day three of the 2015 World Military Games.
Bonnet lit up the women’s 200-meter free in a time of 1:57.65. That swim cleared her previous meet record of 1:57.99 set last year. That’s a day after taking down the 100-meter free mark. China’s Zhang Yuhan, who already set the 800 free meet record earlier this week, finished second in 1:57.89 also under the 200 free meet mark. Brazil’s Manuella Lyrio took third in 1:59.78.
Suo lowered the meet record in the women’s 100-meter breast in 1:08.53. That swim downed the 1:08.61 set by Fan Rong back in 2010. Ukraine’s Mariia Liver placed second tonight in 1:08.83 with Fan earning third in 1:09.48.
Nguyen took down the women’s 200-meter IM meet record with a 2:13.87. That swim clipped Francesca Segat’s 2009 mark of 2:13.92. Russia’s Viktoria Andreeva finished second in 2:13.96 with China’s Zhu Yingying snaring third in 2:16.73.
Brazil’s Nicolas Oliveira topped the men’s 200-meter free in 1:49.03. That’s just a bit off Samuel Pizzeti’s meet record of 1:48.76 set back in 2009 for Italy. South Korea’s Sang Jin Jang placed second in 1:49.92 with Egypt’s Marwan Elkamash earning third in 1:49.96.
South Korea’s Kyu Woong Choi claimed the men’s 100-meter breast title in 1:00.80, that’s nearly a second back of Hugues Duboscq’s meet record of 59.94 set back in 2009. Russia’s Oleg Kostin took second in 1:01.24 with Ukraine’s Valerii Dymo placing third in 1:01.59.
Poland’s Tomasz Polewka put up a 25.28 to win the men’s 50-meter back. Guilherme Guido’s meet record of 25.12 from 2010 withstood the challenge. South Korea’s Dong Won Jeong finished second in 25.56 with Italy’s Niccolo Bonacchi picking up third in 25.87.
China’s Chen Mengchang won the men’s 200-meter IM in 2:00.91, a second off Henrique Rodrigues‘ meet record of 1:59.94 from 2010. Rodrigues wound up taking second tonight in 2:01.41 with teammate Thiago Simon placing third in 2:02.41.
Brazil’s Etiene Medeiros, the second-ranked swimmer in the world with a 27.26 from Worlds, won the women’s 50-meter back in 28.38. That’s just a bit off Yang Li’s meet record of 28.09 from 2007. Italy’s Arianna Barbieri placed second in 29.01 with Russia’s Alexandra Papusha taking third in 29.25.
Brazil’s Nicolas Oliveira, Henrique Martins, Larissa Oliveira and Graciele Herrmann won the mixed 400-meter free relay in 3:29.79.
