Caeleb Dressel Scheduled to Race at U.S. Open
When the preliminary psych sheets for the upcoming U.S. Open (Dec. 3-6) were released by USA Swimming on Friday, the pages were filled with big names. Among them is Caeleb Dressel, who is scheduled to contest three events during action at the University of Texas’ Jamail Swim Center. A 10-time Olympic medalists, Dressel is entered in the 50-meter freestyle, 50 butterfly and 100 butterfly.
Dressel last competed in a significant meet when he raced at the TYR Summer Championships last summer in Irvine, California. At that meet, Dressel finished third in the 50 freestyle, behind a time of 21.94, and he placed second in the 50 butterfly with a swim of 23.28. A three-time Olympian, Dressel has indicated a focus on the 50-meter events on the path to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, and his schedule in Austin supports that approach.
There will be plenty of competition for Dressel at the U.S. Open, as Cal’s Jack Alexy is the top seed in the 50 freestyle while Canadian Ilya Kharun is the top seed in the 50 butterfly. In the 100 fly, Dressel will face off with the likes of Kharun, Dare Rose and Shaine Casas.
