At the 2017 Idaho High School Swimming State Championships the same team won the boys and the girls 1-3A, 4A, and 5A meets .
Girls
1-3A
Kimberly High won with 120 points. The team swept the relays. Few 1A-3A swimmers contested individual events. Julia Cummings of Bonners Ferry won the 100 back (1:05.47). Riverstone’s Christina Uhlenbrock won the 100 fly (1:04.49)
4A
In a tight team battle Bishop Kelly beat Idaho Falls 228 to 226.
Idaho Falls won the 200 medley relay by six seconds in 1:52.58 with the team of Tayla Liddle, Andrea Perttula, Kailee Puetz, and Shaylee Liddle.
Boise out touched Idaho Falls for the 200 freestyle relay 1:41.87 to 1:41.96.
Idaho falls picked up a victory in the 100 breast when Perttula touched in 1:06.26. She was also second in the 50 free (24.18) behind Sandpoint’s Payton Bokowy (23.96). Bokowy won the 100 free (51.56).
Bishop Kelly’s Anika Rubocki won the 200 IM with a 2:11.89. Rubocki, Claire Souza, Brooke Hughes, and Nikita Rubocki won the 400 freestyle relay (3:43.43).
5A
Boise High ran away with the victory, totaling 239 points. The team won all three relays. Maggie Erwin of Boise finished second overall in 1:55.94, winning the 5A event. She was also third in the 500 free in 5:10.08. Her senior teammate Sammie Eyolfson won that event in 4:59.71. Eyolfson also dominated the 100 breast in 1:03.61. Isabel Swafford was also a winner for Boise, touching in 57.92 in the 100 back.
Charity Pittard of Rocky Mountain HS won the 100 fly in 56.90. She also topped the 200 IM (2:02.80).
Eagle High’s Sydney Christensen won the 50 free (24.59) and was second in the 100 free (55.30) behind Century’s Kelsey Bilodeau-Byrd.
Boys
1-3A
With 136 points Kimberly High won the meet and swept the relays. As in the girls meet, only a few 1-3A swimmers raced in individual events. Northwest Academy’s Wiesner Charlie won the 100 free in 49.07. He also won the 50 free in 22.09.
Cameron Langdon of Nampa Christian won the 200 IM (2:08.08) and 100 back (58.59). Kimberly’s Tyler Lloyd won the 200 free (1:54.06) and was second in the 100 free (51.01).
4A
Bishop Kelly had 253 points for the victory. The team won the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relay. Century took the 400 freestyle relay title. The team’s Thomas Roark, an LSU commit, won the 100 (45.45) and 50 (21.16) free.
Idaho Falls’ Are Steen won the 200 free (1:49.64). He was also third in the 500 free (5:01.80) behind a pair of Bishop Kelly freshmen: Gabe Machado (4:38.21) and Randon Hall (4:55.81). Machado also won the 100 back (52.91).
Wood River’s Zach Deal broke a minute (58.69) to win the 100 breaststroke. He also topped the 200 IM (1:58.03).
5A
Like the girls, Boise was dominant with 331 points. Eagle High School won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:31.26 while Boise took the 200 medley and 400 freestyle relays.
Boise’s freshman Nathan Quarterman was first to the wall in the 200 free (1:42.97). Capital’s Paul Shutt (1:44.97) took runner up honors.
Boise also won the 50 free with a 21.90 from Gage Dewsbury. Carson Sargent of Eagle touched second (22.02). Dewsbury won the 100 in 48.25. Touching second was Coeur D’Alene’s Gabe Markowski (48.61).
In the 100 fly Miachel Chang, a Boise senior, was first to the wall in 51.19, not far ahead of Aren Kariotis of Lake City in 51.67.
Century’s Jackson Cunningham took 200 IM gold (1:53.71) while Post Falls’ Jonathan Archer (1:55.48) finished second. Cunningham was also first to the wall in the 500 free (4:40.43). Archer won the 100 back (51.64).
The 100 breaststroke title went to Culley Shannon in 1:01.80.
